I think i have the same problem. I was using the headphones today to listen to music at the gym and when I took the headphones out, I don't get any sound and I can't make calls, BUT when I go in to settings to change the ringtone level, I can hear that, and I can hear the beeps when I get a new text message.

It seems like the phone still thinks the earpiece is connected when in fact its not.

People can hear me, but I can't hear them when I call, unless I put it on speakerphone. Too, I can't hear the numbers/keypads when I press them. Help!

I'm on my second Chocolate VX8500. My first one did that exact same thing, and completely out of the blue. I took one call, and it was fine. Ten minutes later, it was broken. First, though, I was still able to use the speaker phone function, but only for about a day. The worst part is that it happened the day of my boyfriend's birthday party that I had planned, so people were calling me nonstop for directions and to see if they needed to bring something, and I didn't figure out the speaker phone part until a few hours into the broken-ness.

Anyhow, I couldn't find a solution and had to exchange it in. Sorry that I don't have a solution, I just thought I'd commiserate.

(BTW, this second one just broke last night out of the blue. Different problem, though.)

Same problem- my phones vibrate function has also failed. the problem with sound came after having the phone about 1.5 years. just out of the blue.

I have the same problem, started out of nowhere yesterday. My bluetooth does work...so I'm thinking its either the top speaker or the phone permanently thinks its bluetooth connected. I restored the phone's original settings but that didn't help...anyone do a different restart?

I have the same problem. I've had my phone for approx. 1.5 years. It was working for one call and 5 minutes later, without dropping it, etc. I can't hear the person I'm calling. They, however, can hear me. Of course Verizon was no help with the problem.

Hooray! I get to add my Chocolate phone to the "no sound" problem list :p I've had mine also for about 1.5 years and today when I went to answer a call, there was no sound. The only way I can communicate on my phone now is through speaker phone. Also, there is no sound when going through any of the menu functions (no, it's not set on vibrate - I wish!) and calling for my voicemail is the same issue - I have to use speaker phone. *frowns* I've tried turning the phone off, removing the battery ... can't find any troubleshooting tips online yet either.

I have exactly the same problem. The phone worked fine for a year then all of a sudden the earpiece stopped working. I used the speaker phone for about a day but then the music and camera buttons on the side stopped working so I can't get it into speaker phone mode. Going to Verizon today to try to see what the problem is, but it seems to be something that happens often

I've never used my chocolate for music or used an ear piece... But I have had it for about a year and a half like everyone else. I made a phone call earlier today and everything was fine. A few hours later, I go to call someone and I can barely hear anything. Guess I'll have to use speaker phone but I'm afraid that'll stop too according to what everyone else has written. My keypad and menu still make noise though. I'm sure Verizon won't really help much either. I've taken out the battery as well. Nothing helps. Looks like I'm SOL.

Yeah i have the same issue. I've had the phone for quite some time now. One day, randomly, the vibrate function stopped working. I figured it was no big deal until i couldn't hear anyone that called. They hear me but I can't hear them. Now i realized that my speakerphone works okay but that's absolutely no help whatsoever.

My LG VX8500 worked for almost two years. Three days ago, the sound went out. This affects the ear speaker AND the speakerphone speaker (two separate parts of the phone). I took it to the Verizon store and they suggested that I pay $50 to replace it OR "upgrade," which means getting a new phone at a reduced price and signing on for another two years. The rep. was very helpful but I declined. Based on this thread, I wonder whether there's a systematic problem with these LG Chocolates. I asked the Verizon rep. to perform a hard reset on my phone, but she said that it wouldn't solve the problem. I took it home and attempted a hard reset on my own but couldn't successfully complete it. Maybe you'll have better luck--but be warned, a hard reset is a last resort because it effectively reduces your phone to hardware only (all contacts, pics., etc. will be gone).

Damn I have the same problem.

    I have a mint chocolate.

I cant hear people when they're talking to me.

    They can hear me.

I cant hear my phone dialing.

    My phone doesn't vibrate.

    This phone is pretty gay.

I have the same problem two times before, and I have it again. Before, Verizon has been very good about replacing my phone and giving me a new one, but with my battery. It must be something with the phone itself, and it eventually gives out.

    Going to Verizon again today.

TRY THIS: Have had my LG chocolate for 10 days, then sounds just stopped. Another website said to take out the battery for a couple of minutes and put it back in, I just did that, and now my sounds are back!! I hope this isn't a chronic problem...

Just go to the store.... nothing else works.
if its still under warranty then they'll just give you a new phone.

I had the same problem, mine had to do with when i was charging , my speaker would go crazy and wouldn't charge

it used to work for the last week when i hit the phone really hard , but now it's just completely broken

verizon is the most useless company ever. i used to have insurance, and they replaced my first broken phone with another broken refurbished one... now they won't let me replace this one unless i pay them $50 (now why would i shell out more money for a POS phone)... it turns out since i paid 4.99 a month instead of 5.99 , i get screwed over after 1 yr passes. i'm going to switch out of verizon ASAP.

SOURCE: no sound whatsoever on LG KG800 Chocolate Phone

I found my phone was doing this same thing, and it turned out that it was randomly switching itself to bluetooth mode, so you can't hear anything if you aren't actually wearing your bluetooth.

Turning it on and off did work, as well as switching it out of bluetooth by unlocking it and hitting the switch button in the middle. Now if I could just figure out how to get it to stop switching to bluetooth on it's own, because it's done it 3 times now in my 10 minute conversation!!

easiest way to solve this problem. go to call settings and TTY mode. and switch it to TTY + talk ... if that doesnt work then fiddle around with the other TTY settings untill it does. this disables the earpiece
