Question about Frigidaire FEF379AC Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a Fridigaire FEF279ACH, last night I turned it on and it tripped the whole house breaker. When I reset the breaker the oven display panel does not work. The top burners work fine. I am thinking it is the control unit for the oven. I have not opened the back of the unit yet but I am definitely capable of doing that. Any suggestions on how I confirm the diagnosis before I purchase a new one?

We have the same model. It just did that today, tripped the 50A breaker for the oven and the 100A breaker for the house.
The part that failed is on the back of the clock.
remove the panel from the top of the back, there are several relays on the board, the large relay on mine had some black discoloration around it. If you remove the two boards from the housing you can see where where L1 and L2 shorted together.
The part number for the board is 316207529.
New board $132-$169
Rebuilt board on ebay $95

The control panel on my oven doesn't seem to be working. I pressing COOKING MODE for 5 seconds and nothing happens. The display just blinks once in a while.

In the power panel on your house. There are two circuit breakers with their handles joined. One of these breakers has tripped internally which will stop the heating elements but not the control panel or oven light since they work on 120 volts. Reset the breaker or replace it.

Used the microwave last night. Later I noticed no light display for the clock. Come to find out microwave lost all power. Model number smh9207st

If there are no fuses or circuit breakers, the unit could be down and out. Check you power box for any tripped breakers.

That means you have only one live wire running the whole house. If this happens the power sneaks through a 220 volt appliance and feeds the other half of the house but at reduced power (a brown out) This may damage appliances. Reset the main to the house. If it still isn't fixed call the electric company in your region to fix the wires feeding your house

No power or display lights, clock, nothing to the oven. We did a quick clean last night. The oven door is locked. The range has a spark to light burners. I reset the circuit.

First check the breakers at the distribution panel. Turn them off and back on. If this doesn't work you'll need to check the plug for power. If this still doesn't get it you may have a tripped limit it is usually in the back and check the manual for any available customer resets.

Eaton Arc Fault Breaker type BRAF tripped. I reset it but lights will not work. Ideas please?

My arc fault breaker trips in my bedroom when ever a load is put on line. The trunk line comes into a three gang switch box and feeds the entire room. At times I can turn my ceiling fan and light on for 10 to 20 minutes before the breaker trips. Other times the breaker will trip when either switch is first turned on. I plugged a 4 watt night light in a wall receptical, without the ceiling light or fan on, it also trips the breaker. I have had other plug in lamps, 60 watt, work in other recepticals for a while. The problem seems to appear in all recepticals and lighting in the room.

My oven display is beeping and blinking 'PBR' on the display. What does that mean?

I had this same problem last night.. I have been having problems with the oven shutting off on preheat.. That sort of stopped. Last night lost power to the house. When it returned the oven was beeping and flashing PBR. I turned off the breaker for a few mins. last night and it returned. It was bugging me so much that turned it off the whole night. Woke up this morning turned the breaker back on and it stopped. I don't think this is the total solution. I am thinking that eventually I am going to have to replace power board in this oven. Hope it works!

Hi There,

It certainly seems like you got a large power surge. Something may have been fried on your oven control panel. The trouble is circuit breakers are meant to trip when there is an overload or short circuit situation. Good ones will also detect an earth leakage problem to save us humans from being electrocuted.

Unfortunately in general they are not surge protectors. That is they will not trip quick enough to save your appliances if 10 zillion volts suddenly comes down the wire.

I think you are going to need a service technician for this one.

Good luck

Doug.

200AMP Breaker trips same time every night

Something doesn't sound right here. You indicate 2 200Amp breakers. With a single service entering the house, this is not possible. The "sub-panel" to the pool house is more likely a 100Amp setup, yes? If not, you have a bad setup and it should be corrected. I would suspect that you are attempting to pull too much current to the pool and that is what is tripping the breaker. Also, these breakers should not be run over about 80% of their capacity for the long haul. If they are, they tend to age and get either real sensitive causing tripping when it shouldn't or you can run 500Amps through it and it won't trip.

My suggestion is to revisit the setup. If the pool house is fed from the main panel, make sure that the breaker for it is not 200Amp. Second, try disabling the pool house breaker to see if that is the source of the problem and look more closely there.

Keep us posted.
