Hello, I have a Whirlpool dryer that seems to shut off after a few minutes. It doesn't do it all the time, sometimes it works for a few days and doesn't do it. Am I just not understanding the dryer? Sometimes it will shut down and then I change the settings and it will work.

A Whirlpool Duet dryer, purchased new 11 yrs ago. Turn it on it runs for 5 minutes & stops. Sometimes have to wait a few minutes before it restarts. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Hello Jacquie Burgess,

Thermal cut off triggered - Part number 279973
(you MUST verify part number).

Sadly... I went out onto my favorite site looking for High-temp
cut-off or thermal limiters (ELECTRONIC)... but "APPLIANCEPARTSPROS" failed to RE-CONFIRM their very OWN number they gave out... wp697772

A direct call FROM YOU would be appropriate...

BETTER STILL... would be YOUR OWN part number from your
owner's manual...

However... the are MECHANICAL reasons your dryer may actually be reaching OVER-TEMPERATURE situations...

and your machine could be correctly shutting down for SAFETY REASONS:
TWO Principal reasons would be

- A BLOCKED dryer vent (usually lint)
- A Broken/Defective Blower

To check AIR-FLOW... You outside dryer vent should be putting out a POWERFUL stream of hot air..

If you do NOT feel that powerful air flow... disconnect the vent behind your machine and check it again there...

If there is a difference you HOUSE DUCT needs to be clean
(do this regularly to prevent FIRE DANGER).

Then...
IF no powerful air flow is felt directly behind your machine... your BLOWER IS DEFECTIVE (see below)

I had a similar issue on my Kenmore Elite (turned out to be a blocked VENT (BIRD: inside the MACHINE).

Else your HIGH-TEMP LIMITER is DEFECTIVE and needs replacing (possibly... WP3391914, (you MUST verify)).

Hope this helps.

Why does my electric dryer shuts off after being on after a few minutes how do I fix it?

This has the potential for being something simple. Moving sometimes causes us to shove things up or into places and you COULD CONCEIVABLY have something keeping the motor from turning the tub. This buzzer could also be a warning device telling you there's something improper in your outlet . . maybe a blockage. If it worked beore you moved, it's less likely that you have a serious problem, but probably WILL have if you don't look into it right away.

Sometimes does not shut off and shows weird timer numbers that cannot be input

Sometimes this kind of stuff can be solved by unplugging the thing, waiting a few minutes, then plugging it back in.

I have an electric Estate Dryer made by Whirlpool TEDS840PQO. It has "Timed Dry", "No Heat Fluff" and "Auto Sense Drying" settings. On the Auto Sense Drying it has...

Verify that the wrinkle prevent switch is good. If so, the timer is likely the problem. Sometimes the switch contacts inside the timer can be cleaned to restore operation, bit it is a tricky item to disassemble and reassemble.

Whirlpool ggw9868kq .Ducts are clean, airflow is good. Drum rotates. Dryer warms up then heating stops. happens in both auto and timed cycles.

My whirlpool dryer Model GGW9896KQ2 seems to run ok but it doesn't seem to heat up properly and takes several cycles to dry clothes. I checked the exhaust vent and it seems to be blowing air out ok. Also, it appears the dryer goes to the cool down cycle way to early. In addition, the dryer will sometimes shut off before the time is acutally done. help--I don't want to spend money for a tech or even a new dryer. It's only 8 years old.

Maytag LDG 712 shuts off before clothes are dry.

First, The most common part would be the over limit safety, it will be mounted to the element housing. Second, there is a thermal fuse usually a small disk with a little fuse inside. You can find these (with your model no.) at www.Repairclinic.com .Good luck.

I HAVE A WHIRLPOOL DUET GAS DRYER MODEL NO. GGW9250PL0 THAT KEEPS BEEPING EVERY FEW SECONDS AND THE DIGITAL MINUTE DISPLAY IS ERRATICALLY CHANGING THE NUMBER OF MINUTES WHEN TRYING TO SELECT DRYER SETTING....

We had the same problem. Sometimes unplugging it for a few days, it would work when plugged back in. We replaced the user interface which is part #19 on the Whirlpool parts list, the front circuit board. The part alone was $160 at the cheapest place we found. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/
