Check for ice / frosting inside the freezer .... If present you probably have a defrost problem.... This causes the freezer coil to ice up and block the air flow ... the causes could be a bad defrost heater , defrost timer, defrost sensors, or control board. Also make sure that the condenser coil is clean. remove ALL dust with a vacuum and a coil brush .the coil is located either on the bottom or on the back side of the unit... Hello Nicole,

Their are a few things that couldbe causing your refrig.troubles.

1) their is ice build up in the return air vents that is not allowing air to flow correctly
you can see the air vents under the crispers in the ref.floor and can see if they
blocked with ice.

2) the freezer fan is bad and not circulating cold air into and out of the ref.

3) In addation to the defrost timer, perhaps the deforst heater and defrost thermostat are bad and frost is building up in the freezer,Do ya see frost
build up in the freezer??

Freezer not freezing

The defrost timer or defrost element is not working. Ice has built up on the evaporator blocking off air flow. No air flow no cooling.

I have an amana br22 the botom freezer gets an ice block on the radiator coils then air flow slows down to top section i have to hot air gun the freezer to get the air to start moving

The ice block is due to a defrost circuit failure. Typical problems are due to the defrost heater, defrost timer if used on this model and defrost thermostat. Since you are using a heat gun to melt the ice, check the the defrost heater with a meter to determine whether it needs to be replaced.

Our whirpool refirgerator and freezer arent getting cold despite putting controls on highet setting?

Is there frost in the freezer? If so defrost it completely. I mean completely because most of the the ice that is built up is inside the freezer wall and blocking the air flow through the evaporator. Setting it to max when it has frost already only makes it worse as it is. So go ahead and defrost it completely then set the temperature to about midway only.

Bottom frezzer is working but fridge is not blowing cold air

Refrigerator gets cold air from freezer compartment. Either the air flow is blocked by food items or ice, or the recirculating fan is not working.

The most common failure is that the freezer coils get all iced up becuase the defroster timer, defroster thermostat, or heater has stopped working.

When it's running, you should feel cold air blowing out of the vents that are in the fridge, otherwise, the 'air tower' (air vent) is blocked with ice.

If you manually defrost the whole thing, and it runs fine for a day or so, then it's not defrosting properly. If you manually turn the defroster timer, and you don't hear the scorching/hissing/gurgling of the defroster working, then that would confirm a fault in the defroster circuits.

Based on the following thread, it's probably a bad defrost thermostat.

I have Fridgedair FRS26ZRRW1. There are ice built up at the bottom of the freezer side - under the bottom basket. The ice melts and flows out. Help.

Defrost condensate drain is blocked so now when the freezer defrost the water does not leave freezer and go to pan below the freezer to be returned to the air inside your home by the heat and fan blowing warm air over the pan. Sea Breeze

Temperature in ref not cold took off the flow thru from freezer and it is blocked with ice I now need to get the cover on the inside of the ref to remove the ice from this side I can get it loose from the...

Most times this is caused by a blocked defrost condesate or a defective defrost system. I will need to get your make and model number. You will need to manuall defrost by unplugging the refrigerator and remove the rear panel in the back of the freezer. Use a hair dryer to help you get the ice melted enough that we can have a look at two parts of the defrost system and the defrost drain to make sure there is no blockage. Here is where to look for the model number in the photo below and I will help you get this one fixed, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Every few days a stream of water comes out

The defrost heater is working, but the drain is blocked with ice. Every time the ref. goes into defrost the water does not drain down to the pan underneath the ref. You will need to remove the inside back cover in freezer and remove all the ice that has built up. you will need to defrost the ice with boiling water until the drain opens. then you will need to attach a heat probe to the heater and down into the drain. Usually you can use a piece of copper or aluminum wire to attach to the heater.

Have side by side refrigerator (approx. 10 yrs old). Fridge no longer keeps food cold enough even at highest setting and freezer isn't as cold either.

Your refrigerator needs to be turned off and aompletely defrosted. Overnight if possible. You have a large amount of ice built up on the freezer coil that is blocking air flow.
Most refrigerator sections are only cooled by air flow from the fan in the freezer section.
Thaw it and clean it out real good and you should be back in business.
