Question about IBM ThinkPad T21 Notebook
I cannot get network connections to recognize a USB modem on COM4.
I installed a Zoom Mini USB modem on my T21 Thinkpad on COM4 and ran the installation CD. Everything appeared to run successfully. The device manager recognizes the USB Modem and everything runs fine when I run diagnostics on it. I tried connecting to the internet with AOL, Netzero and MSN and none of them will recognize the modem. I went to Network Connections in the Control Panel and tried to set up a dial up connection there and I get "Unavailable device (COM1)" and when I run NetZero's connection wizzard I get "Modem Not Found". It appears as if the T21 is looking for the modem on COM1 no matter what I do. I also tried the same thing on my desktop with the same configuration as the T21 (except it's a Penium II) and everything works great. Both computers are running the same version of Windows XP. Does anyone know how I can get this to work on the T21 Thinkpad? Thanks.
Why fight it , let it be on com 1 then,
go into the bios and disable the serial ports .
that may be the easiest fix as long as you don't need the serial port for anything.
but if you have a serial mouse oh boy.
