Before taking any medications, especially OTCs, check with a physician or pharmacist for fetal impact. It is important for pregnant mothers to seek prenatal medical screening and health checks. Follow the treatment plan, and take all the medicine prescribed.

Seeking medical advice over the internet can never replace the knowledge of medical professionals.

Tip

Using Tums while pregnant

Studies have shown that nearly 80% of all pregnant women experience heart burn or acid reflux at one point during their pregnancies. Nearly 60% of women report fighting a constant battle with heart burn or acid reflux throughout their entire pregnancies.
Many of these women suffer quietly and many of them take Tums or other antacids to ease the discomfort.
Because of increased blood production during pregnancy, many women develop an iron deficiency. Anemia can cause exhaustion in the mother and problems such as premature birth in the fetus. Anemia is usually treated with an iron supplement, taken at bed time. Doctors recommend that iron be taken at bedtime because consumption of the supplement along with dairy products can render it ineffective.
Ironically, women also tend to suffer discomfort from heart burn and acid reflux when lying down in bed at night.
What doctors don't often tell women is that taking many antacid tablets can also render iron ineffective.
Therefore, it is particularly important to curb your Tums intake at night so that the iron supplement you take can actually be effective.
Studies have shown that in order to get rid of indigestion problems while making sure your iron supplement is effective, you should not take more than 6 Tums a day and to avoid taking them for at leas two hours before and after taking your iron supplement.

Omnicef what are side effects and what is it treated for how should it be taken?

That is a cephalosporin antibiotic. Dosage varies according to the sickness, a typical dose being 600 mg per day, with or without food.

The prescribing doctor needs to know if the patient has allergies to anything, is pregnant, or has any

- blood clot disorder
- disorder of the kidneys or bowel
- seizures
- diabetes
- recent vaccinations
- other medicines regularly taken

Like other antibiotics the full course in the presciption should be taken to the last dose as directed.

Do pregnancy tests check for any abnormalities?

No, basic pregnancy tests simply check whether you are pregnant or not. They don't give any other information about the fetus. For this you need to do scans and more detailed testing through your doctor.

I heard from a friend that it is not safe to handle cat litter when pregnant. Is this true?

This statement is partially true. Pregnant women can safely handle unused cat litter; however used cat litter should be avoided. Cat ***** has been known to transmit a disease known as toxoplasmosis; which can seriously harm an unborn baby.

I just found out that I'm pregnant and want to know if its safe for me to sleep on my waterbed.

First of all, congratulations! Now, I am no doctor, but I can see some dangers to sleeping on a waterbed while pregnant. First risk that I can think of first is the use of electricity to heat the bed. Studies in the past have shown that there was a higher rate of miscarriages with women who slept on a waterbed (or used an electrical blanket. The second hazard that comes to my mind is the heat. Your internal body heat should never go above 101 degrees. By sleeping on a heated surface, you can increase the chances of birth defects, or worse, miscarriage. I would suggest buying a new bed. With all that being said, many manufacturing companies suggest using waterbeds while pregnant. They say that it increases the comfort level for pregnant women and allows them to sleep comfortably on their stomachs; thus taking pressure off other parts of their bodies.
