Although my Tom Tom will get me city to city, I am not able to type in a specific address. After typing in the first letter for the address, it freezes, and I have reset the Tom Tom?

TomTom's GPS devices provide consumers with portable navigation solutions. Download maps, view turn by turn updates and listen to spoken directions on trips across town or across the country. TomTom has a variety of GPS products, but basic use and inputting destination information are almost identical across the board. If you're just taking your TomTom out of the box, you'll need to perform a few extra steps to complete set up. I am listing the 7 steps to use TomTom below;

1. Ensure your TomTom unit is fully charged. A full charge requires approximately two hours. Power the unit by pressing and holding the "On/Off" button for approximately two seconds. Make sure you are in an unobstructed area. Wait for the Tom Tom to power up and acquire a satellite signal.


2. Answer the on-screen questions to set up your device. The questions only appear if this is the first time you've used your Tom Tom. Otherwise, the driving view and your current location will be displayed.

3. Tap the center of the screen to open the main menu. Tap "Navigate To" and then tap "Address."

4. Choose the option that describes how you wish to enter the address you are navigating to. You may tap "City Center," "Street and House Number," "Zip Code" or "Cross Street or Intersection." To enter an exact address, choose the "Street and House Number" option.

5. Type in the requested information by tapping the letters or numbers on the screen. As you type, matching town and street names will appear in a list format. Choose the correct option from the list when it is displayed by tapping it. If prompted, enter the house number by tapping the corresponding numbers on the screen. When you are finished, tap "Done".

6. Select "Yes" or "No" when asked if you need to arrive at a particular time. If "Yes" is chosen, follow the instructions to enter in the desired arrival time.

Finally, follow the on screen and spoken directions to reach your destination.

magellan gps is that kind.the blanking out is to prevent errors. let put it this way. 123 west pine lane . for example
type city... then street. as soon as one letter is typed. search is narrowed to a minimum to make it easier to gps to search your destination with much less errors

then. all letters visible. are for all street names that start with p in the city you selected before. .
then p i
a few letters will be displayed.meaning that only names that start with pi will show. like picture picnic pine pin pint pine pines
when you type pine as for address..
it wil show you all streets that matches city and street
123 west pine
123 east pine lane
123 north pine lane
123 south pine rd
123 south pine ave
your selection will be 123 west pine lane.
if you dont want to strugle with that gps. i highly recommend GARMIN GPS devices

I would first check what city or town your looking in....

go to Where To..... Address....on the addres screen does it say Select City in ( city the address is in ) ?

If not on bottom of screen it will have change State / Province

sometimes if you enter 123 N West St you will need to put 123 North West St or 123 St Anne would be

123 Saint Anne

Next time you want to go to a specific address, do not enter the city. Instead, hit "Search All". Then enter the address as normal. Sometimes the address is listed as being in a different/nearby city due to the ZIP code. Let me know if this helps.

Tap screen to get the options, then:
1) "Navigate To..."
2) "Address"
3) "City Center"

Done!

It searches the database for street names. keep typing your street name until it is the only one availiable. If it cannot find your street, then either: you are spelling it wrong, you have the wrong city/state or the street is newer than the database

download the map for your state and or region gaemin is the only gps that requies you to do this. tom tom is a better product and dosent require downloads

OK. This is how to do it.

- Navigate to
- Address
- Street and house number
- In the "City" space at the top, type the postcode. (tap 123 button bottom left of keyboard to get the number pad)
- You will see a list beneath of the countries that use the postcode.
- Tap the country you want.
- You then see a list of streets in that postcode area.
- Tap the street name (or start typing it in)
- Type in the house number.

If the unit is not allowing you to continue to enter the street address, press the back button until you get to the city. Press "Search All" instead of the name of the city and try the address again. It could be that the unit has the address listed in a different city (it sometimes goes by how the post office lists the ZIP code). See if this helps. As for taking the unit apart to access the reset button, all you have to do is remove the faceplate. There is an intentation under the top. Insert your fingertip and pull it forward. Carefully remove the faceplate, and the reset button is on the right hand side.

Are you sure the unit is looking in the correct City? Sometimes the city will be listed according to the ZIP code. For instance, you may type in one city and it may be listed as a neighboring city due to postal regulations. If you cannot find the correct street in the city you posted, hit the Back key. When you get back to City, hit Search All Cities. Then try the address again. It may pull up the correct address, just with a different city listed.
