Projection
TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look
3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
- Screen looks 3D
- Colors don't line up
- One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
- Screen is bowed or warped.
- TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some
photos of convergence problems.
Here is a quick test....Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.
If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

i have the same problem. The green is out of line and i have tried to reset it by unplugging the tv and also the pressing the reset on the convergence button. NOTHING HAPPENED ! Everything was fine unitl my son hooked up the Wii to the TV and then several days later the problem occured. Do you think it was the Wii ? Also what can I do about it?
I guess the blue line on the convergence is way off and wont go back where it should be. It looks like theres a blue "ghost" on the tv mainly with words. It started a couple months ago with the screen getting blurry in parts of the screen, like one line on top, one on bottom, and one through the middle, thought it was just something with the antenna connection. still using rabbit ears. Now its got the blue. Thank you!
I have the same problem. Interesting to hear that it was after the Wii connected. Exactly same problem and timing . Looks like Wii is not good with these sets.
Wow. My set just lost convergence. I believed it to be the STK chips and then went online and found many to have this problem and had the STK's as the problem. Never had a problem with this set and started using the Wii about 3 months ago. Maybe there is something to that? I plan on replacing with the stk192-150's. I guess I will see if that is any better.
I am using the Wii with the composite inputs. Wonder if using an upgraded adapter to connect to a component input would help.
My Hitachi 50UX18B has developed a blue shadow which becomes more pronounced as a separate horizontal shadow on top of captions or text. Appreciate if you could let me know what specific ic's to replace.
