Question about Seagate FreeAgent Go 80 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Harddrive not readable by my computer.

Errrr, mine is the seagate 400GB, after using for couple of months, i accidently unplugged the power, now my computer is not reading the drive, is there anyway that it can be fix without losing all my data??

thanks in advance.

When I try to load Ceedo a pop up appears to say there is an update available, i click OK to get update. Then after 5-10 seconds the Loading Ceedo starts and goes for about 30 seconds and then cuts out. Help on the panel wont work either. If I go back to the start , same thing happens again.

Thanks for your reply al habeeb.

There was know message re surge, only that hardware has bee safely removed.

I have tried my digital Camera through the same port and it works fine.

Re resetting the USB port, I am not sure how to do this but assume if other device works Ok this is not the problem.

Have tried to load Ceedo again with the same result.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

When u unplugged the power, did any message appeared saying " there was a power surge in one of the usb hub" ?
if this message appeared, the problem is with your usb hub.
try reseting it. Do other usb devices get detected when u connect them to this port?

Well you could buy a hard drive enclsure (usb) then open up the seagate and take out the hd (unplug it form the ribbon cables) then plug it into the enclosuer and try plugging that in. may or maynot work becouse the hd itself may be "fried"

I have a Seagate Freeagent 500gb external hard drive that I have had for over a year. It has over 400gb of information on it and I would really like to keep the information. I recently used the device...

Hi, please anyone feel free to register on the site that the link takes you to so you can see the thread, it shows a link from You Tube on how to take the Seagate apart so anyone with the problem with the unit just making beep sounds and not being reconized by their P.C.
As all the threads i saw like my 1st thread reporting about my friends Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB asking about his problem and no-one was getting replies, and they where getting frustrated, I decided to find out. Someone has replied to my other thread with the same answer as taking it apart and connecting it to a P.C. So to help others who need their important files from the external HardDrive I have made a step by step guide so even novice P.C. users like myself can attempt to sort it out without being charged loads $-£ etc.. It seems unfair for all these users to buy something new and with in 1 week - 2 months it fails and they have important files etc.. stuck on the HardDrive and being charge to retrieve it. I'm not looking to cause any trouble just want to help others out. http://www.yo-lid.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=84 You will find the thread in 'Technical ' under 'General Technical Issues ' please let me know how you get on thanks.

Wont reconize

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

the drive is damadged internally, you have to phone or email a data recovery centre to get your data back, that can cost $1500+ because of the size of the disk.

You better check with the Seagate people. This seems to be a problem with the casing. And since you're under warranty, you can get a replacement.

It sounds like your hard drive is all locked up my friend. Unplug it now to prevent further damage. Don't worry any many cases you can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company that I highly recommend:

Maxtor 3200

Seagate troubleshooting Error Code 10, states that drive has failed. (Seagate bought out Maxtor)

Before you resign yourself to everything is lost on this harddrive, how about trying one more thing?

How about putting the harddrive inside in a new external enclosure, and see if it works? I suggest that perhaps the external enclosure it's in, is bad.
The harddrive inside is a 3.5 inch harddrive. Same width as used by a desktop computer. It is a Sata harddrive.

Here's an example of a 3.5 inch Sata, external enclosure,
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3901268&CatId=2780
Just pop the external enclosure open that holds it now, take it out, and install it into an external enclosure like the example above. Plug in the USB cable.

Don't know if this applies to your particular Maxtor Personal Storage 3200, but when I went to search for the type of harddrive it uses just now, I ran into thsi, and thought I would pass it along. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/personal_storage/ps3200-sw)

Ebay or seagate.com may be a solution.
I've used those Seagate portables and 2 have caused problems.
Or disassemble the unit, remove the drive and buy a portable case or USB adapter.
