Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I have a fuji finepix S5100. Sometimes when I turn on the camera the lens won't move and I get a zoom error message. This morning when I turned on the camera the camera can on as it should but the lens makes a clicking noise that it didn't used too. Can this be fixed? My husband is not afraid to tear into anything, if he just had some direction.

I'm sorry, you misread my comment about my husband....He is NOT afraid to take apart anything if he had some direction. Is it possible to get any directions or internal diagrams of this camera?

    Thanks,

    Marianne

Hi.

This is a common problem , generally indicated as lens error. The problem is often caused by dirt or dust in the lens gears

Possible reasons are :

* Faulty lens mechanism or jammed lens (camera usually turns off by itself in this case)
* Main board faulty.
* Ribbon cable to main board broken or connector defective.
* If there is no power at all it is the connector from batteries to main board, this is also a ribbon cable.

You can attempt tapping gently the back of the camera while turning the camera on. Sometimes this can help the lens out.

If that does not work, then the lens must be taken apart.

I summarized the problem in this article: Lens Error.

I think that your husband is correct when he says he is afraid to disassemble the camera. The lens assembly is very delicate and made of small gears and parts. If you do not have enough experience there is always a good chance that you turn the camera into a bulk of tiny bits and pieces by attempting DIY repair.

Try following the steps in the article if that does not work I suggest calling Fuji at the number listed on manual. You can also get a quote from a third party repair service here: Repair.

Here the repair manual with full disassembly diagrams.

    Hi.

I already posted a link to repair manual. The manual is not free. I have the manual, but it is a book, uploading will take ages. The papery document will cost about $30, the manual can be downloaded below at $7.99. there is no free download available for this model:

Here the repair manual with full disassembly diagrams.

Here a link to a Free service manual for S6000. The two cameras get disassembled in the same way.Show it to your husband. Using the internet you do not get a technician working from distance to repair your camera. Support that we give consists in hints, methods, opinions, sharing skills and documentation. In this case the method is illustrated in service manual.

Here link to free service manual for S6000: http://emsi-bg.com/files/1460_114_S6000f...

    Best regards.

Dropped my Fuji S7000. Am I doomed?

The lens is probably jammed internally. Get an estimate from your local quality camera shop. Sometimes the problem is easy to repair and sometime you'll need a new lens assembly (may cost more than the camera.)

Error message now showing

Does the lens extend and retract as normal?
If so then the internal drive gear for the zoom / focus has been damaged and will need to be repaired/ replaced.
If the whole lens will not move or is stuck then it needs to be removed, stripped and re-assembled.

Fuji finepix A600 camera - Zoom error

I had the same problem turn up after a few weeks. When I used the zoom button, the lens pushed out again and the camera worked normally for that time. I had to go through that procedure every time I turned the camera on.
I then sent it back on warranty and they replaced the lens assembly as well as the mode dial knob etc.
This camera has a 3 year warranty.
good luck...
