Question about Roxio MYDVD VIDEO LAB 10 for PC

4 Answers

Hi there, i'm having problems trying to import mpeg files from my Hitachi DVD camera to my PC using Roxio MyDVD video Lab. It captures the 1st chapter of the movie fine, but for any subsequent chapters it only captures about 2 seconds each. The play preview shows the whole chapter, but when imported you only get a brief snaphot. I have tried this with several different chapters and all the same result. There is also a problem where, when importing a scene, it gets to 100% imported and then freezes. I then have to close the programme down using task manager, which still shows that the programme is 'running'. Very frustrating indeed! can you help? Thanks Stew

Using the live USB connection. We got Roxio because the programme that came with the camera was misplaced, so it's the only way we can get the film from the camera to the computer.

Hi there, I'm not using firewire but i see there is a port for one.
I'm using a Dell Studio Intel core 2 Duo CPU, T6600 @ 2.2 Ghz. 4GB RAM. SO should be grunty enough no?
    Cheers for the reply mate.

Yep DVD cam Model no. DZ-MV780E.

  • tgwonda Sep 07, 2010

Aah! back to the original problem. Hitachi do not provide that programme after market. There is only 1 programme licenced to each camera and that's it. So they recommended Roxio. Using Panasonic 1.4Gb DVD Ram's.

Oh sorry bro. DIdn't mean to dis you at all, I appreciate the help. In fact I hope you're right, as the other guys solution will put me back to square 1! I'll go right out and get a firewire and hopefully all my woes will be over. cheers Bob!

  • tgwonda Sep 07, 2010

you'd think so but for some reason Hitachi don't give away the programme that comes with the camera, they recommended that i buy Roxio. cheers for the other tip though

Use the Hitachi software to first download the movie to your PC, then open it in Roxio and do the editing you want. I've had problems with Roxio and replaced it with Cyberlink Power DVD. Another good alternative is AVS4you. AVS4you is the least expensive and can do alot. Get a fully functional trial copy first at www.avs4you.com

I should also have suggested that you check the hitachi web site for any software upgrades for your camera.

You should be able to download the misplaced software directly from Hitachi.

I've found that using the AVS software most USB issues go away. It'll slow down the transfer, but you'll get what you want.

It sounds as if you are using USB for the transfer and this has limitations with regards quality and the amount you can tranfer in one block.

The best option is if your player supports firewire (1394) then use that as the limitations do not apply and it is also faster.

Other limitations are down o the spec of the computer and wihtout those there is litle more advise I can give

Your computer has enough grunt as you say so your issue is with the USB port for sure !

Roxio will also work with firewire connections too.

Your USB port has a limit !

Also using firewire will l;et you pull the WHOLE video and not just parts.

You can also use the built in microsoft stuff to do your movie too.

I can see you are going to diss this answer as you did the last and thats fine but your USB port is the issue and there is NO WAY round that as it is a built in limitation of USB.

There is plenty of FREE editing software and even expensive software but they are all going to give you the same issue using USB. I can only speak from first hand experience on this issue.

Feel free to drop this answer but I am sure you are going to be told again by any other GOOD expert with experience in vidoe transfer that you have a USB issue

Might be helpful if you explain how you are grabbing the video output from the Hitachi DVD. Is it using the live USB connection or do you have the DVD created on the camera and then you are playing it in the DVD player of your PC running Roxio.

Is there a way to copy the DVD first into a the PC hard drive and then apply the Rixio for editing etc.

Are you able to provide the model no. of your DVD camera?

  • Sam Sep 07, 2010

Thanks for providing the model no. of you hitachi DVD camera. I have gone through the user manual.

I have looked at pages 142 onwards on PC connection. I think you will need the software that is available for this camera due to the nature of the format used by the DVD which is different to the DVD format used in PCs and other DVD players. Also see information on this site for your model DVD camera.

My suggestion would be to obtain the recommeded software from Hitachi (check contact number in manual) and try out according to instructions given in the above documents. Keep in mind that Hitachi have now stopped making video cameras.

Roxio MyDVD etc may not be compatible with the format. Which type of DVD discs are you using?

Here You can find a free mpeg converter for any type of files. What kind of file do You have? If it's .avi, probably Roxio creator cannot burn it because it is too big, and if You nave the menus on Your future DVD, I'm sure the reason is the size. On Mac it's easy. With toast titanium, You can select an option fit-to-DVD, and the video fits on standard DVD. Probably, the default compression options in Roxio aren´t sufficient. Try to search in advanced options compression level, or, You can convert with the MPEG Streamclip the video to mpeg video, by selecting a different level of compression, and then You can offer this file to Roxio. Try this. If it not helps, drop me a message.

DVD keeps jumping

There may be a problem with incompatibility between the make of DVDs you are using and your DVD player. What make of DVDs are you using? Not all DVDs are of equal quality, Verbatims and Tayo Yuden are considered among the best., Maxell, memorex and store brands are at the bottom of the barrel.

Also how long in time is the video on the DVD?

Video Recording in Canon DC20

U can use Nero, where you create your own dvd, click on import disc. There will be a item, select it and click import disc. The file will be stored at the default nero folder witch usualy is under "My Document's" an then under "Nero" then "Imported" then a folder wih the date of import will provide you with the videos. This is how i did it until it started to eritate me, because your dvd should not be scrached in any way, the program will terminate if it cant import that piece of video.
I hope this could help you...
