Sounds like the motor is stressing and a cut-off is operating to protect from overheating........ensure the bobbin area under the needle plate is clean and clear of lint, and that there is no thread jammed around in this area, also at the take-up arm and the cams at the far left of the upper shaftnear the needlearm.........if there is thread wrapped around anything, unwind it VERY CAREFULLY .....DO NOT pull and break it, be patient and move the handwheel gently in reverse while gripping the trapped thread, working it free slowly.

Of course it may be that the motor is old and needing a replacement, but as this machine is quite elderly and may have other complicating issues, you would be best to have someone take a look at it for the best decision of fix or replace, if it comes to that point.

I sew thin leather w/Janome MC4000 using leather needle. Want to try thicker leather but not damage machine. How thick will this machine take?

Be careful sewing thick materials with a domestic machine. Even though a lot of machines are supposedly able to sew thick leather & fabrics, it could damage your machine in the long run. If you value your machine, you might want to find a second machine (used mechanicals, older Singers, etc., probably work better for this purpose) to sew thick fabric. Save your nice primary machine for more conventional uses.

Was sewing along, straight stitchin, machine simply stopped! Like no power anymore but light is on! 1 expert:foot pedal bad but PEDAL IS POWERING MOTOR! Correct resistance ohms?

If it's a mechanical machine (not computerized), it may need a good cleaning and oiling. Consult your owner's manual and use only good quality sewing machine oil.

Janome MC4000 occasionally thread comes out of take up lever while sewing.

the thread take up lever needs to be closed just a little, take a small piece of fabric and put it over the take up lever and use a pair of pliers to close the take up lever just a little and see if that helps the thread to stop coming out of the take up lever. ( the fabric is to keep the take up lever from getting scratched up, because of the pliers)

Singer stylist 534 sometimes when you stop won't start without turning balance wheel

Yes this is normal especialy with heavier fabrics. It allows more control so you build up speed gently. It is also related the limited power of the motor.

Can't figure out automatic buttonhole use on MC4000

2 things must do:
You have to use the buttonhole foot.
You have to pull down the lever to the lowest position (just left of needle bar/ presser bar up in machine.)
Set to buttonhole. After each buttonhole, be sure to change off the buttonhole then reset to buttonhole to reset the buttonhole to the beginning

How to put on presser foot "p" to embroider

Not shure you can embroider on an MC4000, i think this is only a sewingmachine.

But to change presser fot:

If it a "snap on" foot, when foot lifted, press the "button" on the back of the needle bar (on the bottom) this would release the presser foot.

If is a large foot, you have to unscrew the screw on the left side of the needlebar, and change the whole foot.
