My CD/DVD drive on Gateway M460 laptop only works after I recover my computer to an earlier date. It tries to run, but cannot actually bring up the CD. After I recover, it works fine until the next ti

good thing is it seems like a software fault not hardware, when it isn't working check to see if the drivers are still there and if they are updated. something may be deleting the drivers for the device like a virus. so there may be a program that you use after you recover that sends it to **** again. Download Avast! antivirus and use that, best protection around.

To check to see if the DVD/CD has the drivers click start -> right click computer -> click manage -> (wait for screen to load) click on device manager and navigate to the cd/dvd rom drive. you can manage the drivers from there and update, locate the driver and backup, rollback drivers etc..

My laptop screen went very dark, I can barely make out whats on the screen but I know its working. What can I do to fix this situation on my gateway p-6860fx pc notebook?

Hi josue fernan...
You need to see if your laptop lcd screen is faulty and/or the lcd inverer is faulty.
1....Test the lcd screen:
Hook your laptop to an outside monitor and then start your laptop normally...if the picture on the external monitor is good, then your lcd screen is bad.
2....Backlight Faulty: If the monitor is still as dark like your lcd screen on the laptop then it could be the backlight that is faulty.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

The dvd/cd station does not work correct, every time he put out the dvd or cd

Try re-seating the DVD/CD drive and then Check Device Manager and check DVD/CD driver and if it has a yellow ? against this drive then the DVD/CD driver needs to be re-installed.
If this item is OK then the DVD/CD drive may be faulty and needs to be replaced.

My gateway laptop's dvd/cd drive stopped working, all of a sudden, but it plays music cds, it is just the DVDs that don't play them or even explore... what could it be the problem? how do i solve it? it...

Are you sure yours is a DVD player? It could only be a CD-CD writer, which will NOT play DVDs.
Open your control panel ->system->hardware->device manager and click on the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon. The listed devices will tell you if you really have a dvd player or not. If you do really have a dvd player, try a different dvd

My 3660 does not recognise my DVD/CD write/rewrite theough the connections are all fine. Same too with my new Sony Walkman when plugged into any of my USB drives

Do any devices work in any USB ports on that laptop (Flash drive, mouse/wireless mouse, USB keyboard)?

USB support may be disabled in the BIOS.
Boot into the BIOS and check the built-ins and enable, if necessary.
(just in case, disable and then enable)

USB controller driver messed up:
Right-click [My Computer]
[Manage]
[Device Manager]
Look for any "marked" errors on devices
open the +USB Serial Bus Controllers
Pick a faulty one and "disable" then "enable" it.
If it still fails, then "Uninstall" it (Windows will find it and re-install it automatically.

That should do it.

He dont reconize his cd-dvd drive

Hi

Please check device manager first, Right click on my computer which you will find from either your destop or from start menu.

Select manage, on the management window, on the left side click on device manager.

Now on device manager, on the right side, look for your CD/DVD drive, do you see any ? yellow marks there?

If you do see right click on the spesific device and select properties, then write down the status message to me.

Thanks,
Ekse

You need a game port on your computer.
Best solution is a Game port converter.
You can find a converter on this link:

Click on this link or copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

The DVD RW AD 7563A ATA Device no longer works on my Gateway...

NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

DVD doesn't open

This problem may be a bad cd/dvd drive. When the computer boots up, go into the BIOS setup. Check to see if the computer recognizes the drive, and make sure it is not disabled. Next, check in the "device manager" to see if there are any yellow question marks or red X's. This might indicate a driver problem, or a misconfigured drive. If these steps fail to resolve your problem, replacing the drive would be your next step. This is a fairly easy task, and worth the time to research the steps for your particular model.
