My CD/DVD drive on Gateway M460 laptop only works after I recover my computer to an earlier date. It tries to run, but cannot actually bring up the CD. After I recover, it works fine until the next ti

good thing is it seems like a software fault not hardware, when it isn't working check to see if the drivers are still there and if they are updated. something may be deleting the drivers for the device like a virus. so there may be a program that you use after you recover that sends it to **** again. Download Avast! antivirus and use that, best protection around.

To check to see if the DVD/CD has the drivers click start -> right click computer -> click manage -> (wait for screen to load) click on device manager and navigate to the cd/dvd rom drive. you can manage the drivers from there and update, locate the driver and backup, rollback drivers etc..

My laptop screen went very dark, I can barely make out whats on the screen but I know its working. What can I do to fix this situation on my gateway p-6860fx pc notebook?

Hi josue fernan...
You need to see if your laptop lcd screen is faulty and/or the lcd inverer is faulty.
1....Test the lcd screen:
Hook your laptop to an outside monitor and then start your laptop normally...if the picture on the external monitor is good, then your lcd screen is bad.
2....Backlight Faulty: If the monitor is still as dark like your lcd screen on the laptop then it could be the backlight that is faulty.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Not have driver of cd rom my models is Gateway mx3231

make sure all leads that are attached to your cd/dvd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps

Your CD/DVD drive may be fine, but some software is faulty. The repair is a very similar process for all Windows versions, which involves editing the registry, so use caution. Here's a my search results:

Error with a TSST CD/DVDW TS-L532U.

Try uninstalling the device using device manager. Shutdown computer and restart. If the problem persists then you have a faulty DVD/CD drive.
Go to My Computer and right click, select the Device Manager, search for the drive on the right side. Right click and choose Uninstall. then restart. Hope this helps.

Are you sure yours is a DVD player? It could only be a CD-CD writer, which will NOT play DVDs.
Open your control panel ->system->hardware->device manager and click on the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon. The listed devices will tell you if you really have a dvd player or not. If you do really have a dvd player, try a different dvd

You need a game port on your computer.
Best solution is a Game port converter.
You can find a converter on this link:
