I have an Averatec 2300 laptop that will not power on. It started a few weeks ago. First while browsing the net, I got a gray screen. The laptop would not come back. I turned it off and restarted it, but it would not rerstart. All I got was the blue power light. When you hit the power button you can hear the disc drive click but that is all that happens. I did come on a few time after that. Sometime it would run for hours and other times I would get the gray sreen after a few minutes. The computer is only 18 months old and has never been dropped or hurt in anyway. Do you have a idea of what might be wrong? I have taken the laptop completely down and put back together to make sure it did not have a loose connection.

Try removing the battery and then plug in the power adapter and try to power it on. If no good, get someone to test the power adapter with a voltage meter. The adapter may be dead. If the power adapter is okay, you may need to buy a new laptop.
Please let me know what happens, and I may be able to help more.
Okay, the driver for the system fans (hal.dll) needs to be reinstalled.
Do the following:
Press the windows key and R
Type in command
In the command prompt that comes up:
Type in cd C:\Windows\System32\
Type in taskkill /f /im "hal.dll"
Type in del hal.dll
Then restart your computer
What taskkill does is kill the system fans application that is using the
driver so you can delete it. After your system restarts, Windows will
automatically reinstall the system fans driver, and the problem will be
do u have the power adapter plugged in, or are you using battery power? the first thing i would try is disconnecting the battery. just compleatly remove it and set it aside. then try starting it with the adapter plugged in. sometimes the batteries go bad and are corrupt. i had this happen to a compaq laptop a few years back. after i got rid of the battery it worked fine. if it works u can always buy a new battery.
My 2300 started same problems in Dec 08 (almost 2 years old) Its an overheat problem! With black screen the two blue lights an bottom left are on. Leave powered up and in an hour or so will shut down on its on, then will start back up normally but shut down again in about an hour.Correction 1. pull off back cover, blow out the dust. 2.Go to set up (F2 on power up and run fan cal) 3. Take the back cover off you will feel how hot the CPU and hard drive are that is because vents are too small for an aging laptop. Now take the cover and drill a double line of holes on each side of the hard drive vents, Next over the CPU (where the fan blows in air, drill a triple line of new vent holes in the cover). A 5/32 drill will be about right. You may also wish to purchase an inexpensive Belkin laptop cooler. About $19 at Best Buy. This solved my problem as I do like this little one for travel Glenn New Mexico
Ouch! Have you tried taking the battery out to see if it will
run on AC power when the battery is not installed? Sometimes a bad
battery can kill the system.
Do you have a meter that you can measure the output of the AC adapter
with to see if it is correct? If not, any chance you could swap
adapters with someone for a while to see if theirs works on your
computer and vice versa? A local shop may also be able to test your
adapter to see if it's working.
