SOURCE: Condensation
If the camera becomes damp or cold and brought into a warm atmosphere damp forms in the mechanism which would cause the tape to stick and become damaged or fouled.
leave the camera to warm up for a few hours and the fault should clear.
If not the most common reason is the dew sensor has failed and needs replacing

I found instructions with pictures on fixing this problem online at
http://www.freewebs.com/ltooz/03jvcgrd70u.htm
The process involves taking the camera apart.
Other forums I have looked at have mentioned waiting the error out or allowing the camera to air out.

1. There is a condensation sensor in the tape compartment, It is a silver spindle, in the left rear. Clean this with a swab moistened with isoprpyl alcohol. I have tried this recommended approach, and it did not resolve the issue.
2. Open the camera, and unplug the power cable. This will reset the camera, and resolve the issue for varied amounts of time. The instructions for doing this are posted elsewhere on this site. I have done this with my JVC GR-D30, and have had success.

This is often referred to as DEW and is a sensor inside the camera that detects moisture. You can hasten the removal most times by warming the camera with a hairdryer on medium setting and not too close to the plastic case. When you store the camera store it with a few of those little bags of silicone crystals that come in many packages that we just throw away.
