> nvidia 9600gt oc graphics card requirements : found at http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr96512gtoce.aspx

Microsoft Windows Vista -or- Windows XP
> CD or DVD-ROM drive > 100MB of available hard disk drive space for basic driver installation > 425W PCI Express-compliant system power supply with a combined 12V current rating of 28A or more (Minimum system power requirement based on a standard PC configured with an Intel® Core™2 Extreme X6800 processor) > PCI Express-compliant motherboard with one vacant PCI Express x16 slot. > One 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector -or- Two 4-pin Molex supplementary power connectors
> 512 MB of system memory
http://www.directron.com/slireadymb.html heres a list of SLI ready motherboards. dont gotta use this site to buy it just giving you and idea of whats out there for you.

Seems from what i gathered that as long as its an SLI ready motherboard with a open 16x PCI-E compliant slot and of course its gotta fit your tower. Find out the form factor of the tower then also make sure that it fits the correct type of ram that you have and prosesser. Then u should be good to go!

Does the MSI K8n NEO4 Platinum SLI motherboard support the Geforce GTX 550 Video Card?

The MSI K8N NEO 4 Platinum Edition mobo, has an AGP graphics expansion slot. (Accelerated Graphics Port)

It uses AGP graphics cards that are either 4X, or 8X. (Supports 1.5 Volt AGP graphics cards, hence 8X)

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8N-Neo-Platinum.html#/?div=Detail

Click on the Specification tab. Look under the bold - Slots - subheading.

(Overview, { Which is the tab it automatically opens to}, Specification, Download, Support, News and Awards, Where to Buy )

This is Evga's version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625

Click on the Details tab. (Overview, Details, Feedback)

Under the bold - Interface - heading, and to the right of the subheading - Interface, we see the interface is - PCI-Express 2.0 x16.

Tells you a lot right off the bat, if you know what you are looking at.

1) The graphics expansion slot you need on your motherboard, is a PCI-Express x16 slot.

You have an AGP graphics expansion slot. (That uses either 4X, or 8X AGP graphics cards)

2) The PCI-Express technology used is PCI-Express 2.0

Therefore the answer is No, Stephen.

[ More info on AGP graphics technology, and PCI-Express technology,

1) AGP:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGP

2) PCI-Express:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Now if someone asks you, why the GeForce GTX 550 graphics card will not work on your motherboard, you can explain why in detail, instead of just saying some dude/dudette on FixYa, said it will not work.

Are you sure some 'Mom and Pop' computer store will not trade out, a decent AGP graphics card, for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 you have?
Always worth a shot. Just MHO.

Is nvidia 9600gt graphic card compatible with asus p5rd2vm motherboard

Yes.

1) The Asus P5RD2-VM motherboard has a PCI Express x16 slot.

The Nvidia 9600GT uses a PCI Express x16 slot.

2) The PCI Express version used on the Nvidia 9600GT is PCI Express 2.0

The PCI Express technology used on the Asus P5RD2-VM motherboard is PCI Express 1.1

The motherboard chipset used on the Asus P5RD2-VM shows us this.

The motherboard chipset is an ATI RD480. (Before AMD bought ATI out)

The ATI RD480 chipset came out September 27, 2005.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_ATI_chipsets#Comparison_of_Northbridges

Scroll down until you come to > RD480 in the left column, then read across.

The PCI Express technology started under another name, then was changed to PCI Express.
The first version was PCI Express 1.0
Then PCI Express 1.1

In 2007 (January 15) the PCI Express 2.0 technology was brought out.

The PCI Express 2.0 technology is Backward Compatible with the PCI Express 1.1 technology.
(With PCI Express 1.0 also, but it depends on the graphics card being used)

In otherwords, a graphics card that has been based upon the PCI Express 2.0 technology, will work on a motherboard based on the PCI Express 1.1 technology.

You won't get the full capability of the PCI Express 2.0 graphics card.
Will you notice?
NO.

[ If I had my choice I would run an Nvidia 9800GT instead.
Depends on the price, and availability of the 9600GT I would assume, though.
You may also need a more powerful Power supply.

I have 2x 9600gt 1Gig cards in my PC. Whenever I

Are the cards in SLI Mode? If so, that might be the problem. Since SLI isn't very well developed as of now, and there sill are some compatibility issues. I suppose you do have two identical cards, otherwise, the drivers may not work well. You should update the drivers when the programs are not running; generally, you don't need to, but to be on the safe side.

You can try removing the cards from SLI mode temporary if you really need to. Also, if the latest drivers you downloaded doesn't work, don't update it. If there are newer version, then try them. Often, the companies can't anticipate for all of the problems whenever they release an update.
