Kenmore elite dishwasher noise

Only 2 years old and what used to be a very quiet dishwasher now makes loud grinding noise while running.

Had grinding noise problem and it got even louder every time I used it! I took the unit apart to find out that the rubber gasket that seals the motor bearings leaked water into the bearing and rusted out the bearing and bearing shaft...it will eventually stop the motor from turning. It cost over $220 for a new motor and $29 for the rubber seal kit and I had over 2 hours labor but fixed it myself. Never gonna buy Kenmore Elite products again...

2 year old kenmore elite making noise, repairman said we need a new motor-what a rip off. I too will never purchase a Kenmore appliance again!

We have the same problem with our Kenmore Elite. It is less than three years old. I am not sure I want to spent 300 dollars to fix this miserable thing. I wish we had bought a cheaper 'noisier' model instead.

Me too. I have the same dishwasher and the extended warranty expired. I had other minor things go wrong, but as soon as the warranty expired, the motor started making noise during wash and rinse cycles.

I called Sears to see what are the alternatives, would you believe they tried to sell me a 1 yr "master service policy" for $200. Then once that one year warranty is expired, I can then purchase an "extended warranty" for 3 years worth over $200!!! But, after the master policy expires, I can only purchase the extended warranty if the diswasher is working properly, or else back to purchasing another Master policy. This is such a scam! For $400 dollars, I can get a new one through Home Depot! Never again am I buying Kenmore.

We had an old Kenmore d/w that was about 20-25 years old, was starting to quite on us so when we remodelded the kitchen, we decided to buy a new one. We bought our Elite 2 1/2 years ago. We bought one of the nicest one in the store cause we didn't want something cheap and noisy. We have already had to replace the motor which thankfully was under waranty, but still had to pay $110 labor. Now it's making a loud noise during the wash cycle. I am not getting a repairman in here again! I can get a new one cheaper!!! Rip off!!!!

same thing, leaky seal, water got into the motor and wrecked the bearing.  Junk.  looks like it will run us 200 for the motor assembly and we'll fix it ourselves.  three year old kenmore elite dishwasher

Same thing here. Seal leaked water on the motor runing the front bearing. Our washer is 1 month short of 2 years old. Must be a poor design. I was able to replace the front bearing and seals but for someone not good with tools this would be an expensive repair.

I had the same problem where rubber gasket that seals the motor bearings leaked water into the bearing and rusted out the bearing.

I scrapped the motor into every little pieces and extracted the bearing and just replace it. Now it is quiet as a mouse.

You need a bearing puller to get the bearing out for about $20 and the bearing is $6.
During the repair i slightly bent the shaft and i didn't straightened it properly so it wobbles a bit. But it works and if really quiet.

This forum has been very helpful. Its Aug 2011 and I have the same problem. My sears Elite dishwasher model 66513773K603 made by whirlpool is 4 yrs old. I won't bother calling sears repair. Will try to fix it ourselves. This a bummer. I'm done withe Sears appliances. I'm also done with GE. The motherboard in my GE Profile refrigerator went out last week. It's junk also.

Kenmore Ultrawash Quiet Guard 5 making buzzing/grinding noise

I have a very similar dishwasher, with a very similar problem. I fixed it by removing debris from the water evacuator pump located towards the front of the bottom of the machine (the last motor before the drain hose. In my case, grape stems had clogged it up. Once emptied, it purrs once again. NOTE: don't disassemble the motor, just flush it out, there is an o-ring gasket that is a bear to re-install.

Kenmore Elite 137889, grinding noise

If the noise is like a shaking of rattling , like coins being shaked , then it is an object trapped inside the tub.

If instead the noise is a loud grinding , that may get louder on high speed, then it is usually a bad drum bearing.

The drum bearing is replaced by accessing the bottom side of the washer, and is a not a simple repair.

The IRONY of my Quiet Guard!! SO LOUD!!!!

Yes the wash arm can be removed to get to the sump area. Take the model number for your dishwasher and enter it into a site like partselect.com. There you can get a blown up diagram of the components that need to be removed to get to the cause of the grind noise. Usually a seed or some other hard object has found its way down there.

Dishwasher making loud noise

Newer washers are designed with a food grinder inside to help grind up large pieces of food. What you are hearing is the grinder doing its job. You do not need to worry about the noise. It should go away after a while as the food particle is ground up.

Dishwasher Making Loud High Pitched Noise.

How deep do you want to get into this?It sounds like the wash pump motor bearings that are worn. You can pull the unit out flip it over and wd40 the bearings in the motor or you can replace the bearings.Try to lube them first.

Loud noise when dryer is running.

My guess is that the belt is going bad. It could also be a bad bearing...the noise is generally metallic. Also...a bad belt tensioner comes to mind.
