Get the RCA 4 device universal remote from radio shack. model #RCR4383N $10.00. It wouldn't work using the emerson codes in the manual. Let it find the code automatically. input button on bottom will switch to and from AV input.
Actually I found there are several remotes that work. The first is the Bright House networks remote, the larger one...The second is The Universal Remove Control by GE. It's numbered 24944 in the upper right hand corner of the paper. It's sold for $4.94 at Walmart in the checkout area...
I found that manually inputting the code for the remote doesn't work. You have to do a search for the code using their method...on this particular remote from Walmart, its hold the setup button down until it lights up, then press and depress the TV button...then press channel up until the TV changes channels. It worked once, but I just kept going, the 2nd time it worked, then I pressed the mute button [to keep the code] and it works...you simply press input and it switches to AV.
I have to admit I thought it was ridiculous that you can't use this particular TV without the remote, but I was happy that I went through the effort the first time to keep trying remotes...
This is the first kids TV that I have found that you can't find the AV channel by going through the channels AND you can't hook up two items to the AV outlets because you have to disconnect the back or front ones, to use the other....PLUS it only comes with a dual AV outlet, instead of the 3 plugs [red, white, yellow] only has the white and yellow.
My son has a TMNT tv and the remote is broken or just the button to
turn it to the games. I bought a universal remote and it does work some
so that he can play his games but it doesn't let him enter two digit
channels to change them so he has to scroll through them to get where
he wants. It is an RCA - RCR312W remote and is universal but I had to
go through the steps for the auto code search which was a little
confusing and took a little while. The remote only cost about 8.00. All
of the features don't work and I am sure that with a little playing
around I could figure out the brand from the code but I haven't yet.
Hope that this helps and if anyone else has a better solution please
let me know.
Universal remote control are normally programmed for basic functions, ie. chennel up down, volume up down, numbers, etc.
This is even written in the manual that they do not guarantee that all functionality can be used.
Here are your options:
1. Try all the codes that match your TV, there is a slim chance that the other code have the functionality that you need.
2. Buy the original model remote control.
3. If you know of someone that have the same TV, buy a universal remote control with 'learning' function and copy the signal from the original remote control.
I have the same problems before. Now I use my Casio wrist remote control to copy the special functions such as A/V so that even if the original remote control is lost, I can still use these functionality
