OCR Software for windows 7

The OCR software (ABBYY Fine Reader) included on the CD-ROM was a special edition. It wasn't meant to be upgraded to a new computer with a new OS. It might work on a Win7 32-bit OS with the compatibility mode (not a given). You could try installing it in the compatibility mode - right click on the installer and choose Properties then the Compatibility tab and set for XP. Then right click on the installer again and choose Run As Administrator.

Workarounds are available. If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, you can install a virtual computer running XP for free. Download and install 2 programs/packages - Microsoft's Virtual PC and the XP mode. Install the ABBYY Fine Reader inside this "computer" and run the OCR on that machine. You may need to transfer files to external media (Optical disc or external drive) to share them between the "machines". Other methods include: keeping your old computer with XP or other compatible OS with the software and transferring files across the network (wired, wireless or sneaker-net), running a dual boot computer (with a paid licensed version of XP on the second boot partition) or running any virtual PC program (Parallels, Virtual PC, etc) with a licensed copy of XP.

The only free OCR program that I know of is SimpleOCR, http://www.simpleocr.com/ . As of this morning, the site does not list that the software is Win7 compatible. This software is limited and does not handle pages with columns of text well. (It eliminates the columns and runs straight across.)

There are several paid OCR packages that run under Windows 7. OmniPage 17 by Nuance works well, http://www.nuance.com/for-individuals/by-product/omnipage/index.htm . It costs $150. ABBYY Fine Reader also works but that is more expensive. There is the cheaper ABBY Fine Reader 9.0 Express Edition but it is currently listed as working with Windows Vista, not Win7. It's $50. You could try it.

If your documents aren't items you wish to protect, try one of the online OCR programs. An example is: www.onlineocr.net/ . There are a number of others listed by Google. I haven't tried any of these. I have a computer with OmniPage in my network.

I hope this helps.

(you can check if you can upgrade the ABBY product for a discount. However, those discounts are offered less often in the current economy.)

Trying to install my software disc into my new computer but it wont let me install it its vista old one ws xp

If the disc was for xp it won't work in vista you need a vista disc or run it in compatable mode and see if it works, it should or go to hp.com and download the correct driver for the printer when using vista. This is free at hp.com

My all in one printer is not compatible to my new computer

go to the lexmark.com website, go to software downloads, find the listing for your printer, click on the download for your printer and finally follow the install instructions for the new software.  Restart your computer and all will be fine.
Get help from a neighbor or friend if you don't understand this.

Can't get my lemark 1270 all in one to work with new computer

Hi

Possibly the drivers are not fully compatible with Vista.

Please try to find the setup.exe file in the root of the driver cd, right click it then click properties. In the menu that appears select "compatibilty". When the cpmpatibilty screen opens select "run as" and choose "XP" from the drop down menu.

Hopefully the drivers will now install correctly.

I have a hp psc 2355 all in one and I have lost the sofware

Try not using the disc. Just plug in the printer to the computer. Vista will try to automatically realize the new hardware. Vista may need to download drivers from the web; insure your browser/internet is on. Your can also try www.hp.com for additional downloads or solutions. Good luck.

HP PSC 2350 Printer/Scanner & just purchased a new computer (Windows Vista) & the discs I have for this printer/scanner only support Windows 2000, XP not Vista.

You can set compatability to windows 2000. I presume you have vista. start menu. control panel, programs... then you will see set compatability or similiar (my control panel won't open at the moment). use the wizard to walk you thru the steps. select the program you are having issues with. It will allow you to run the program as win 2000 compatability.

I just got a new Dell with Vista.

most probably the driver that you are loading for your lexmark is incompatible with vista and you need to load the vista compatible drivers. you can download them from the link below
