Get a "Y" splitter. (if your tv is analog)... on one end you will connect the converter and on the other side of the Y will be the DVD/CD and the main will connect to TV

Magnavox NB500MG9 BluRay Player

A Blu-ray player can play DVD or CD and still not play Blu-ray. It may play Blu-ray but not CD or DVD, or burned discs. This is all caused by the 'optical' a part that reads the disc in the machine. Your player will need service as a Blu-ray optic cannot just be 'dropped' into a player.

I would start by replacing the cable from the DVD player to the TV, sounds like a break in the cable, or the plugs are dirty, also, just a precaution, use a CD cleaner.
