Normal. The fridge is working out whether you want ice cubes, crushed ice or water. When you select what you want, the fridge then sets itself up to dispense what is required.
Not sure what brand you have but I had a similar problem with a dispenser once. The ice dispenser would freeze up and couldn't change over from one to the other and I'd have to take it out and let it thaw occasionally and then it would be fine for several months again. If your ice bin is in the door this may be what you need to do.
I believe your dispenser board is defective. The fact that the cubed ice light remains on even when you ask for crushed indicates to me that a relay or switch in the board is remaining engaged. You possibly can unplug the refrigerator and remove the plugon the dispenser board and reinsert the plug to see ifresetting or re-seating the dispenser board will resolve the problem. I will get you some photos, links and wiring dagrams to assist you. Sea Breeze
If you remove the bin and look on the bottom of it you will see a rod running from front to back, this opens and closes the crusher see if it moves freely, if not dump the ice and rinse the bin out with hot water till it moves freely,if so,with the door open set the dispenser to cubes leave the bin out push the light switch in and hit the dispenser button you should hear a loud pop and see the actuator by the auger motor move up,and drop down when you release it.
I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.
I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.
We have had this problem on occasion. The lever up in the ice dispencer gets jammed with frost and ice. If you remove the ice bucket/auger and let it thaw or just rinse it with water and dry it. Give it a try. -Matt
you could have a problem with your dispenser module. a burnt pcb that could lead to all of your problems. switches not working, lights not working, dispenser not working, etc.
check your dispenser module and if you find a burnt part or a burnt PCB, then replace it.
