Question about Mtd LAWN MOWER PART # 753-05201 SERVICE KIT:DECK 2

Open Question

I have a MTD Yard Mach. 42" deck Model 13AK608G062 and when the man. pto is in the disengauge mode, the belt is ready to fall off the idler pulley so I added a spring that would keep it in the middle so there's less slack. also when the shift lever is in "N"(engine off) it still won't push fwd. or back,When started, it won't move but the belt (above, drive) squeals and starts to burn. Thank you for your time... Don

SOURCE: MTD Lawn Tractor: Constantly shredding deck belt...

I have the exact same model MTD tractor with same problem. It began when the bolt that extends through the idler arm assembly broke and subsequently damaged the pulley. Upon examination of the broken bolt, I found that the threaded end that extends below the deck is significantly smaller that the rest of the bolt. I got a larger bolt with the same size threads, bored out the hole through the deck and it made the whole idler assembly much stronger. the deck still has some vibration and some unusual belt harmonics, but it appears to be working. Compared to most other tractors of this size, this deck is very complicated.

SOURCE: MTD Lawn Tractor problem

The front belt should be a 954-0280A, rear 954-0370. When you go to higher gears, the front belt should be getting tighter as the vari-speed pulley is moving further back. Remove the shift plate, put the transmission in neutral. Start the engine, put speed selector in highest gear and slowly let out on the clutch. You should be able to see what the problem is. It will do everything the same as if were in gear, except move. Make sure you have the correct belts.

SOURCE: need photo of routing blade belt for 42

Hi,
I'm sending you a link for you to obtain a users manual for your mower.
To get the correct manual, you will need your Model Number and Serial Number... the website of the link will tell you how to obtain those from your mower.
The manual would be good to have, anyway and should illustrate the correct belt routing and many other specifics.

Hope this helps... Good luck!

I have a MTD yardman 1999,2000 ride mower that won't start because it says the pto is engaged when it's not actually engaged if you could comment an image of the same 42 inch deck?

Check your PTO switch operation which is at the engagement handle.

As for hooking the cable spring to deck idler pulley and brake assembly it goes in the hole closest to the idler pulley on the G deck which different then the F deck which uses the same idler arm assembly as the part is design to fit both decks.

Also make sure your using an OEM spec as a will fit will not work properly. You also must the spindle pulleys belt retainer covers in place so the belt will stay on.

Replace drive belt lt 1000

look for tag on inside of hood for belt numbers. Or get model number off of tag under seat that starts with a 917. then call the 800 number.
instructions... Remove deck, remove pto pulley/ clutch, lock brake, remove crank pully and belt from crankshaft then remove belt from transmission and idler pulleys. Reassemble in reverse order with new belt ensureing the belt is not snagged on any belt guides and all idler pulleys are free.. ( PS sharpen blades while deck is off and check deck belt)

I have a yard man 13AH762F752 How do I know what size my deck is I thought it was a 38" and bought v-type belt and it is to shore so how do I find out my deck size?

If you have a single idler pulley you should have a 38" deck. If the deck has two idlers, then you must have a 42"deck. You should be able to approximate by measuring. This is the "cutting" width, not overall width. Two things might have happened. You didn't get the right belt, or you haven't routed it properly. Here is a link to the Yardman web site to download your manual if you don't have it. It appears that the 38" deck requires a longer belt than the 42" deck. http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/Public.do?langId=-1&BrandCode=10201

Smoke when blades engaged on yardman 42'' yard tractor

The oil on your pulley could definitely be the culprit. You need friction in order for your belts to work properly.
