Toshiba Cinema Series MODEL 50HDX82

TV turns on but get scrambling lines can't view picture I'm not sure whether it's the same problem, but I do get those vertical squiggly lines when I turn on the 50HDX82 (4 years old) - it takes about 10 min for the image to stabilize, and that time increases by about 1min every week.

Hi

Replace the capacitors(about 10 of them) on the Hyperboard 23148024. This should solve the problem. You can confirm this by heating this PCB when cold to prove that it is causing the problem. The fault will dissappear if you heat the parts that are causing your symptom.

I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, just give me a hoy :) If you are still unsure, or have problems, then before you give a rating for this advice, please get back to me and we can try some more things.

Hello there.

It sounds like the TV is quite old, i would first try degaussing the set before writing it off as needing repair or replaced.

Please see this link here to see about degaussing the set yourself, its possible the tv has a fault but you could try the steps mentioned to see if that helps first.

Hope this helps.

Hello Renrew,

There are several things that can cause it. You are best to have an expert technician come in and take some test on it in order to determine if it is from vertical blanking failure or something else. It is not easy to fix this yourself, if you have no experience, because there are a lot of parts that have to be removed before you can reach the components. It could be as simple as a loose connector ribbon or a bust capacitor, but it could also be more complicated. Hence, in my honest opinion, better get a qualified technician.

Hope that helps!

- Picture scrambled when set is

The TV has a bad board. It's called the Hyper board. It has been discontinued by Toshiba years ago so it is not an option to replace it. There are some TV repair shops that can rebuild this board by replacing most or all of the capacitors in it. You may want to call your local shop and see if they can do.

Our tv is 10 years old toshiba cinema series it has blue and red

It will be 11 years next month that I've had my Toshiba 55H55 Cinema Series and have the same problem every now and then, if you haven't already done so, go to the picture settings and scrolling down to conversion and it will take you through 3 steps of adjustments, there is a white cross in the middle of the screen line up the red first and then the blue, it will then take you to a screen with numbers, ID the clearest number and exit out, you should have a clear picture again. I hope this helps.
