Maybe it is not threaded with the thread unwinding in the right direction. Try flipping your bobbin around and see if that answers your problem.

When sewing, mechanism sometimes binds. Bigger problem is when finished stitching, the hand wheel binds completely. Is there a mechanical problem or someplace to insert oil?

Hello Griff

Very likely the thread is kind of bound up in the bobbin area. Just turn the hand wheel a bit forward and backward several times -after you lift the foot. Apply a gentle pull on the fabric and it should "break" loose. Often teh thread is still stretched around teh bobbin and this releases it.
Feel free to reply to this post if this does not do it.

Mega quilter binds thread under fabric

If you have to manually set the tension on your bobbin, your tension may be too loose or too tight. When my bobbin is full of thread the tension has to be stronger than when it is almost empty. So tight when it's full and loose when it's nearly empty. I hope this helps. If this doesn't work try using a air can to blow out the dust in your bobbin casing and make sure the bobbin doesn't have any burs. It needs to be wound smoothly. Also check for thread hangups in the bobbin casing area. Also you may want to completely re-thread your machine.

I am trying to sew a baby blanket, but when I start the thread keeps binding up. I am new to sewing and asked a friend, they said it was a bobbin problem so I change it. I started sewing again and problem still there. Need some advise. Thanks

It sounds like the tension between the top and bottom threads isn't balanced. With the machine threaded, pull both threads towards you and feel if one is tighter than the other and if so, adjust the tension. Top thread adjusts with the tension knob on the front of the machine, bottom thread adjusts where you load the bobbin. Could also be that the bobbin is sitting in the shuttle the wrong way. Have it sitting in the shuttle so that as you look at the open shuttle and pull the thread, the bobbin turns clockwise. Hope this helps.

I have a kenmore model # 1581212180. My top thread is looping and when I change the tension then I get where the thread doesn't even stay in the material. I don't have a manual any longer.

Sounds to me like your bobbin tension is way too tight. Adjusting the top thread tension will not correct this. Either something is binding up the bobbin (thread or lint) do you wind your own bobbins? Perhaps you have a little too much thread on the bobbin and it acts like a break, stopping the bobbin from spinning freely. Check, clean and oil your bobbin shuttle (the thing that spins around the bobbin).

Hope this helps!

Machine is jammed and will not budge,,,hand wheel will not turn

Look into where the bobbin is. Did you break a needle and part of it is jammed in the bobbin shuttle? Did you have a thread binding problem and thread is now caught in the bobbin shuttle area. Clean the debris from the bobbin area and see if this is where the problem lies. 99% of the time it is. Remove the bobbin and look close for thread rapped around the bobbin shuttle.

Good luck!

Why does the shuttle hook grab the spool thread instead of the bobbin thread? It wraps the thread around the bobbin and binds the machine up.

The shuttle hook is suppose to hook the needle (spool) thread and loops it around the bobbin case to form the lock stitch. Is it possible that something was adjusted without proper clearances as to allow the thread looping around the bobbin case to do so without catching up where it should pass through freely?

My bobbin binds up quite frequently. I pull it out to find that thread has wound around the post under the actual bobbin in the bobbin case

Is the case in correctly, in the correct direction so that the thread is not unwinding?? Also make sure area is free of dust, threads & has been oiled recently.

Bobbin thread pulls to the top with all but Brother brand

Your machine was designed to work with the Brother brand of bobbin thread. Any other thread will cause tension issues. If you want you machine to work with another brand of bobbin thread I suggest purchasing an additional bobbin case and have it calibrated for use with the other brand of thread.
