"Burn" the content onto a DVD.
Should really be done with all video or audio files. If your hard drive ever dies you'll have lost all content.

I have a windows 7 operating system & i am trying to move video from my Sony Handycam DCR hc36 Are there simple instructions to download/transfer the video, save it, burn it to a DVD & then...

Get a dvd-r disc. Insert it into the computer. Open My Computer and go into the disc. Format the disc if necessary. Select the format type you prefer (I use Live File). Keep that window open and plug your camera in by USB. Once connected, go into My Computer again, double-click your camera's icon, go into a folder (that should be called) DCIM which is the folder your camera stores pictures and video in. Find your video(s) and drag them into the dvd disc's window. Those files should appear transparent which means they are ready to be written. Look at the toolbar and find Burn to Disc. Disc tray will open once burning is complete.

I have an analog video cam recorder. How could I

Well you can send the Video Out from the camcorder, to a "Video In" device and record it to your PC's hard Drive. Then you could "Burn" them to DVD or simply play from the PC. You can get USB to Video In devices that have SVGA or Composite Video in. also some Video cards have this feature, Video In, as do TV cards for the PC.

Video to a cd

it really depends on the camera you have and what kind of video cd you want. the easiest way is to offload the video file onto a computer and burn it onto a cd that way. however this is just a data file and does not allow you play it in a dvd player, only a computer. otherwise there are many different types of software, adobe encore, windows dvd maker, idvd (on mac). that will allow you to author a dvd. there are also pieces of hardware (quite a bit more costly) that can take a file from a camcorder and create a dvd/cd from it. hope this helps.

Connect the Camera to the Computer using the supplied USB cable. The Computer will recognize the Camera as a removable drive and list in the Windows Explorer. Can't get pics/video from my camera onto new computer

There are 2 ways of doing this.

1) You can use the provided drivers/software that comes with your camera - usually ont he bundled CD-ROM, follow instructions and install it - and you can plug your camera using USB and transfering straight from your camera....

OR (this is my prefered method)

2) buying one of those multicard readers (assuming your PC does not have built-in ones already).

If you are using a card reader you do not need to isntall anything - it will be recognized automatically under Windows XP or higher.

The flash memory card will be recognized like removable storage and displayed along with your hard drives - go to your control panel and you see it pop-up once your memory card is inserted into the slot, a new drive letter will appear under removable storage - you will access your files the same way as a hard drive, by double clicking on the respective icon (example: you have 1 hard drive (1 partition) and 1 DVD-ROM, in your case you would see letters A floppy, C (your hard drive) and D your DVD-ROM, and when you plug your memory card, E. (this is an example). Once you double click on the respective drive letter of your memory card you will see folder with files in them - there will usually be ONE folder which contains all the JPG and AVI or MPG files.
