Noticed the picture has triple images. Tried to adjust, but the Magic Focus Button Does Nothing. We live in the middle of no where, could not even find a television repair category in our local phone book, so will have to fix ourselves. Do you know what the problem could be, what the most common solution could be and where I could order parts. What parts should I order? Would having a Service Manual help? Saw one on a link from your site, but needed to know if it would guide us thru the process of fixing with maybe a troubleshooting section.

Re: Hitachi Model 53UDX10B
The problem with your set is the convergence ICs you need to replace both ICs numbers STK392-120 you can get the new ICs at the following link and they include free instalation instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself which takes about 45 minutes and requires basic soldering ability. Heres the link you will need two STK3920120 Convergence ICs. The manual will not help as it doesnt show the IC instalation. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/

The correct model is 53fdx01b. There is a mogic focus button on the front of the set.
Procedure for Chassis DP05F, DP05, HP11, HP12:
1. Press and hold the DIGITAL ARRAY or CONVERGENCE ADJUST button on front panel.
2. While the button is held down, then press the INPUT or ANT button on remote control.
3. The unit will now be in the DCAM.
1. Proceed with digital convergence adjustment.
2. Remember to save the correction data.
3. Units with MAGIC FOCUS only - Failure to initialize MAGIC FOCUS sensors after saving
convergence correction data will result in a STATIC (+) display when MAGIC FOCUS attempts
to run. The technician will then be required to access the service only switch behind the front
cover to get back into the DCAM to initialize the sensors, since the procedure to access DCAM
without removing the front panel, requires MAGIC FOCUS to be running.
4. To exit, press the POWER button on the front panel.
You have convergence problem. Either bad connections on ics, ics are bad or voltages to convergence circuit are missing. There are no bulbs in this set. 3 picture tubes, red, green and blue produce a picture than when alighned(converged) correctly on top of each other gives you a color picture. When not you get the effect you are describing. Frst you can try the magic focus in the menu.
I'm no expert, but I think that you have a problem with the convergence
of the 3 color guns. I've been working on a similar problem. As a first
step, have you tried "Magic Focus?" The Magic Focus button for the
Hitachi 53UDX10B is at the left of the small front panel controls that
also include your RCA composite and SVideo connectors. Let the set warm
up for about 20 minutes (as recommended by the user guide), and then
press the Magic Focus button. When you press the Magic focus button,
the set will auto align the 3 color guns. If this doesn't fix your
problem, unplug the TV for at least 4 hours and try again.
That #4 error is listed as "overflow," and I got
a"ROM overflow" errorwhen I tried to save my adjusted convergence
data.I don't know whatthat all means yet, but if I figure out my
problem,I'll post backhere. I've read here and elsewhere that the
out-of-focusproblem comesfrom bad resistors or amps on the convergence
board. Youcan tryservice mode to adjust convergence. Press the Magic
Focusbutton, andthen press it again to stop it, and then press the
Statusbutton onyour remote. Here's a link to the manual convergence procedure (scroll down).
