Hello patriotisaac,

Best Buy can repair the screen on your Insignia MP3 player if it is damaged. To get service take the unit into the Geek Squad counter at your local Best Buy store. The store will assist you in getting the unit sent out to one of our service centers for repair.

Be aware that screen damage is not covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty. That means that you would be responsible for the cost of the repairs, including paying a diagnosis fee up front (which would be applied toward the cost of the repair if you accept the estimate).

To be honest, depending on the extent of the damage, it may be in your best interests to simply consider replacing the MP3 player with a new one. Because of the high cost of repair and the affordability of new MP3 players, it may simply be more economical to purchase a new MP3 player rather then repairing the damaged one. Again, your local Best Buy store can help guide you in making the best decision for you.

Best regards,
Ken

I need the back fixed so dust and stuff cant get in

If you can open the ipod back, use a needle nose plyers and pinch the tabs down closer to the side of the back.
then reinstall the back.
be easy and you should be able to get it to seat.
while you have it apart you can clean the screen but it takes some
know how,
there are 6 screws..take then out in order and they must go back in the same order.
lift the top of the motherboard and do not lift more than 1/4 inch the lcd is adhered to the front.
peel it away and lift up. clean the screen and the glass and replace. put the screws back in and snap the back in place.

How to add a new screen to my mp3 player

I don't believe they'll sell replacement screens, you'll probably just have to shell out for a new pilot. Your best bet is probably doing what I did: eBay. Got a gently used 8GB Pilot for $30 that had a 4GB SDHC card in it that the company selling the used player didn't even know was in it. I love free stuff. ;-)

1) Hold the power button (slider) in the on position for about 15-20 seconds to force the player to turn off, if it's already on.

2) Hold the menu button down and simultaneously hold the power button (slider) to the on position.

3) Do not let go when the device turns on. You will then get a screen message in black and white that reads (with a typo):

WARRING !!!

NAND FLASH MEMORY INITIALIZE......

"WARRING !!!" will appear in red (and probably should read "WARNING". You will have the options of "No" and "Yes".

4) Choose "Yes" to re-format your device.

My mp3

Hello Metalhead92,

I am sorry to hear about your Insignia® Pilot MP3 player's cracked screen. Unfortunately cracked screens are considered to be physical damage and are not covered by the manufacturer's limited warranty nor by any Best Buy™ performance service plan or product replacement plans.

The MP3 player may still be serviceable but you would have to pay for the cost of repair. Your local Best Buy store can help you by sending the unit out for an estimate. However, my experience with these kinds of repairs is that they can often come close or exceed the cost of a comparable replacement item. It may make more economic sense to simply purchase a new MP3 player.

Best Regards,
Ken

Pilot error

Ignore Mr. tonto...he'll get banned soon enough.

The player has malfunctioned badly and is beyond repair. Take it back to Best Buy and they will fix or replace it as a good faith gesture.

Happy tunes!

To reset the Pilot completely, turn it off, then press and hold the "Menu" button in the corner. Keep holding it as you power on the device and eventually it will ask you if you want to reformat internal memory. Say yes and your done. This will erase everything you have on the player, but at least it will work again.
