Question about NetGear WNA1100 WirelessN 150 USB Adapter (WNA1100100ENS)

2 Answers

Dell Latitude, Windows XP - WNA1100 wireless adapter works on built-in USB 1.0 port, but the software hangs up when I try to get it to detect the adapter on my Belkin PCI 2.0 port. Have reinstalled Belkin software, and newly downloaded Netgear software a couple of times, but it still hangs up. (The Belkin works with all other deivces.) The Device Manager says there's no driver installed, but can't seem to get one installed, when in 2.0,only in the 1.0 port. Any suggestions?

Thanks for you prompt response. Yes, I turned off the laptop several times, unplugged, even left it overnight, and also tried the adapter on two desktops - same results: works fine on the 1.0 ports, but software hangs up when I plug the adapter into any of the 2.0 ports. Three calls to Netgear tech support and they claim there's nothing wrong with their adapter, that the problem is with my Dell - I can't believe that, as the adapter won't work on three different computers. Any other solutions?

There's no reason to use a USB 2.0 hub when you have only USB 1.0 ports on the laptop - whatever you plug in the hub gets slowed down anyway when the signal is passed to the port on the laptop so you don't get any speed increase.
Plug the wireless stick directly, this is the only way it will work.

Have you tried to turn off your computer? You might as well try to turn off pc, remove cables then hold the power button for 8 secs. Reinsert cables then turn on your pc. try to use the adapter on the other pc's. If it did not work, then you may use another adapter which is WirelessN 200 or above..

Stuck At Detecting Adapter

Disconnect it, remove any software that was installed and restart the computer. Do not connect the device until you finish installing the device's software or the software installation prompts you to connect the device.
If that doesn't work, here's Microsoft's solution:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly
If that doesn't work, go to Netgear's website for support and/or post the problems in the forums.
I hope this helps.

Install wna 1100

Try the following:
- Uninstall the linksys adapter driver on your PC
- Uninstall the netgear driver, and go to kb.netgear.com and get the latest driver.
- Try to insert the adapter into a different USB port. (try them all)
- Update your XP if you are still using SP1.

You must use the driver on the CD that came with the wna1100.
Do not use the latest version on the website.

If you dont have any CD then here is a link for old version software:

Hope it works for you. Dont forget to press Helpful if it works for you.

My netgear wireless-n150 USB adapter wna1100 can't detect adapter.

First determine that the USB port isn't dead. Do other things work in that USB port? If the answer is yes we know it's not the port. Have you tried another USP port? If it doesn't work in another port (or on another computer's USB port) then it's the adapter itself.

Adapters can go bad. USB ports usually work and don't go out. The exception is that many laptops that come with several USB ports sometimes have one (or more) that never did work.

Try it on another computer. This is one last step to determine if the adapter itself is dead and that it isn't something on/with your computer.

It also could be that the computer has the old USB 1 port and the adapter needs USB 2. (USB 1 was slower).

My adapter does not power on when plug into usb slot.

Try it in another usb port, or another computer to test it. If it still doesn't work, you can try to open them up and fix them, but it's a delicate board and difficult to solder.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

As you said that you have reformatted the computer , try to reinstall your USB bus controller drivers because it seems that your USB bus controller is not detecting your USB adapter when connected.

Try this link to download USB 2.0 driver

Wireless zero configuration is the feature of Windows XP that allows Windows to detect the available wireless networks and automatically connect to the most preferred wireless network.

It is enabled by the Wireless Zero Configuration service in Windows XP. It provides auto wireless network detection when you switch on the computer.
Follow the steps below to verify that the service is running:
1. Go to Start and right click My Computer. Select and click Manage.
2. Computer Management window will appear. Under Services and Applications, select Services.
3. Check for the service Wireless Zero Configuration. Make sure that it is started and that the startup type is set to automatic.
computer-management.jpg4. If it isn't, double-click the service. If the startup type is not set to automatic, click on the dropdown arrow and and change it to automatic. Click OK at last.
autostart-wireless-zero.jpgIf your wireless adapter driver does not support wireless auto onfiguration, you will notice the following:
- The network adapter does not appear as a wireless network adapter in Network Connections. It appears as a LAN adapter, similar to an Ethernet connection.
- The properties of the wireless connection do not have a Wireless Networks tab.
- You do not receive a Windows XP notification bar message indicating that wireless networks are available.
To get the most out of your Windows XP wireless experience, you should contact wireless adapter manufacturer to obtain the latest version of the drivers that support this XP feature.
If not, you must manually configure wireless network settings using the configuration software supplied with the wireless network adapter.

Every time I try to reinstall my wna1100 it says that it can't be detected and i cannot get blue light back on

Make sure you reboot your computer after you uninstall it, and prior to reinstalling it. Also, note there was a new driver that came out for this device. http://www.linksys.com to check for an updated driver. If you have the older driver (1.0) original version; there are some issues with it and USB 1.1 ports. I would defiantly try an updated driver.

Got this fix off of newegg, and it works for XP

Install the updated software package from Netgear. Go into C:/ Program Files/Netgear/ and copy the Driver folder. Paste to your desktop or wherever.

Uninstall the Netgear software. Plug the wireless adapter back in, let Windows locate, and point it to the XP folder in the drivers folder. You're up and running. ^.^
