Toshiba satellite network card

I was trying to create a local (home) network to be able to share files and printers. It seems that whatever i did, i somehow made it impossible for me to now connect to the internet and I think that my internal network card is off.

Check first if the network adapter of the pc is disable:
Right Mycomputer>Properties>hardware>device manager>network adapter if your adapter is disable just right click on it and click enable.
For file and printer go to this link:

Try this it comes from the windows help file on Windows 7
You should let Windows manage
your home network connections because it's the easiest and best way to share
files and printers.

But if you've previously set up customized sharing permissions on
your network following the procedures in Windows XP or Windows Vista and you want to maintain those
permissions when using a homegroup, you can choose to manage network connections
yourself. If you choose this option, you'll need to use your user account and
password when accessing other computers.

To continue using customized permissions, create or join a
homegroup, and then follow these steps:

  1. Click to open Advanced sharing settings.

  2. Click the chevron to expand the
    Home or Work network profile.

  3. Under HomeGroup connections, click Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers,
    and then click Save changes.

When you start your computer, press F8 button few times every 1 second. You need on black screen option to go into 'Safe mode with networking'. It will start windows in protected mode. Go to browser and Internet (you must have configured network card with gateway to Internet).
From http://go.eset.com/us/online-scanner download scanner utility and try to clean computer.

Some viruses are so hard to clean. One of option is to use live CD linux (boot from CD linux Mint, burn iso from Mint page). Start sharing of partition with Samba sharing (in Mint Control Panel). You must create network too. With another clean computer, you can scan this partitions with antivirus. In that sharing Windows (and virus) are not live, and it can be scanned, and cleaned.

But this will not solve all modification on Windows from viruses action.

Sometimes is only option formating of partitions and reinstalling of windows. This is last options...
AVG is good free antivirus for home use.
Good luck!

Your Toshiba Satellite Pro might be using a specified IP address. Try to set it to obtain an IP automatically. Depending on the Windows OS, whether it is XP, Vista or Windows 7, go to your Control Panel then Network connections or Network Sharing Center and double click on the Local Area Network connection (if your are using wired) or Wireless Connection. Look for the TCP/IP protocol and make sure it is enabled as "Obtain IP address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS addresses automatically". Then click OK to save settings.

Remote printing was working and then it stopped.

If this is a network printer. You can reinstall the drivers that came with the printer as a local printer, then go into control panel open the 'printers and faxes' right click on the printer that you reinstalled, 'properties' go to ports tab, select add port, -> 'standard tcp/ip port' -> 'new port' -> next -> put in the ip address for the printer, it will be the scheme of you subnet for example if your ip address for your computer is set to 192.168.1.1 you would use the ip address for the printer port of 192.168.1.2. after that is done press next-> after that you will be set as a network printer. Try to print a test page.

If this does not work, you can install the printer locally on a separte computer, such as your home pc, and make the printer a share. Then simply add the share printer on your laptop. for example; after you install the printer on your home pc, go under control panel, -> right click the printer -> sharing-> enable printer sharing... -> Next -> You will be prompted on the sharing tab-> select 'share this printer' -> type a share name, such as 'Lexmark2' -> click ok. at this point you will see a hand under the printer, showing it is shared.

Note: you will need to get the computer name of the pc that the printer is locally installed, your home pc. for this example lets name the pc 'home' you can find the name of your pc by right clicking on my computer and select properties. go to the computer name tab.
also remember we named the printer share 'lexmark2'

now go to your labtop, go to the control panel and select 'printers and faxes' select add a printer on the right column. a windows will pop up, click next -> select 'A network printer, or printer.....' click on the radio buttion that reads 'Connect to this printer (or to browse.....' should be the 2nd option. this is where you are going to use the computer name and printer name.

put in

\homelexmark2

click next -> then finish

print a test page, from your labtop.

How can I connect my toshiba tecra 8100 to my pc?

There are a few ways to do this, and the choice is yours.

Visit this site:
http://compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworking/a/connecttwocomp.htm

It will explain the different methods and what is required for each.

The best option would be to use a Ethernet Cross-Over cable.

Then enable File and Printer Sharing, which can be found in My Network Places.

The site should direct you.

Let us know if you run into any bumps.
Good luck
