Ge frontloader dryer is squeeking incessantly, high pitch squeek driving us all crazy. by manually turning the drum i can isolate the squeek, but cannot see anything wrong. does it need to be taken...

There is a teflon bearing that holds the back of the drum you will need to replace. To get to it remove the top cover, take off the control panel, remove the front cover, take off the belt, then take the drum out, ususlly by lifting it up as you pull it foward. While have it all apart I would reccomend replacing the teflon glides at the front that the drum rides on.

DRYER IS SQUEEKING WHEN IN USE

Main bearing or drum guides are shot - it must be opened up to inspect further.
Grab the drum - and try to move it laterally.
If it moves - your bearing is shot and at almost 2/3 the cost of a new one - repair is questionable.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

Elec. dryer squeeks...squeeks...squeeks...replaced belt, did not improve. Could it be the plastic drum slides, I only say this because they look really worn?

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication

If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If the rollers don't have flat spots on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:
http://www.partselect.com/
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx
Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

there are wheels that hold the drum in place they have berrings that tend to go bad i would replace them it should fix the squeek. also you can put some bar soap aon the beld to quite the squeek if it is not the holding wheels

I have a Maytag Legacy Dryer SDE305DAYW that is squeeking. How do I change the belt?

the belt is not causing the squeek. either the tub rollers, or the idler pully is squeeking. you must remove the front panels and drum to inspect these parts. usually when a roller or idler pully is squeeking, you need to replace them. if they arnt to worn, you can clean the shaft and grease them to stop the squeek, but i dont recomend that, as it will just be a temporary fix and will start squeeking again. this isnt a easy repair if you've never done it. let me know if you have any further questions. GE Profile dryer Model# DPSQ475ET4WW

You posted under a DPGT705EC and then a DPSQ475ET4WW, so I am going to guess you have the later one. If it has not been squeaking for an extended time you can get by with just changing the rear drum sleeve bearing (WE3X75). To do this, use a putty knife to push in on the 2 clips about two inches in from the sides at the seam where the front panel meet the dryer top, allowing top to swing up and back. Remove screw holding front panel to side panel near top just under where the top was. Tilt front panel forward and lift off bottom pegs. Swing to side (you don't have to remove wires). Pull drum forward about 6 inches. (you don't even have to remove the belt.) Change sleeve at center back of drum. Make sure to inspect the front drum support slides WE1M481dark ones and WE1M333 white ones (about 1/2 inch x 2.5 inch strips at the top of the front panel which support the front of the drum), as about the time the rear bearing goes, these may be wearing also, especially the one on the left side. You may have to contact GE to obtain an owner's manual (but there is nothing in them about how to service the dryer, just installation and settings, etc.) Parts can be obtained from just about any appliance service company or appliance retailer which does service in your area.

thanks for the question. If your dryer squeeks just a short squeek just as you start it thats not a big problem If the noise is there all the way through the cycle it could be the drum rollers locatedat back wall of dryer ,the drum rides on 2 of these they could be worn if its a short sqeek could be a slightly worn belt . thanks for the question The appliance doc

Squeeling noise

It could be just a dry belt and pulley. You could try the old squeeking car fan belt trick and rub soap on the belt. You can even buy sticks of anti-squeek from automobile outlets.
