The USB connection is known for crapping out after a while. There is really nothing that can be done unless you are an experienced microcomputer engineer.

Test the following first as stated by buttercup:
Buttercup219 "try moving your usb cord around pushing it up down or left or right. i had to angle mine up to make it work and hold it still the whole time."

Does that seem to apply to you? the USB port on the back may have became loose. its common on that series. the ONLY thing you could do, is to take apart the printer (find the screws, they're torx, you'll figure it out while you watch TV) and once you get to the main board, buy a soldering iron at the $1 store and re-heat up the connections between the board and the port. At most, you may have to buy a little bit of solder for $3 at radio shack. Its really not that hard. Once you do that, the printer works perfectly for a very long time! If your not down for that, recycle it.

The USB connection located on the back of the printer has been known to quit working expectantly. There is really nothing that can be done except diagnostics by an experienced microcomputer engineer or replacement of the specific pc board located inside of the printer.

We have HP Photosmart 8050. We had a paper jam but was able to clear it. However, it will not print from the computer. We were able stat and color alignment page, so we know paper is getting through and...

There will be something in there, whether it is toner/ink over a sensor, a paperclip/staple, or a tiny scrap of paper.
The trick with this one is patience, methodically strip it down as far as you can, checking as you go for stuck material, and once you have gone as far as you can put it back together nice and slowly, looking for broken connections and loose bits, then try it again.

If there is nothing in there then the printer has something broken and needs looking at by a technician, in this case you should turn to your warrenty.

No connection HP photosmart 8050 printer

Hi from France,
I am now repairing my printer (Photosmart 8050) with the same problem. It is due to the welds of the USB pins of the socket on the printed board. It is thus necessary to open the printer by means of a screwdriver Torx. You need a little soldering iron in order to weld the four pins of the USB socket, and then I recommand to strengthen the connections and the socket by means of hot glue.

best regards,

Philippe
