Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

Camera shuts down when i use the zoom.easy share c180

Using the zoom requires the motor which pulls more power than the camera when idle. If the battery is close to exhausted it will shut the camera off when you zoom. If this isn't the case your zoom may be stuck and the camera shuts down to prevent damage.

Zoom out and it shuts down

Don't think you'll have to send it in for repair. How old is your battery? Keep in mind that it isn't meant to last for more than a year or two, regardless of how often it is used. A camera will automatically shut down if its battery power is getting low. This usually occurs when the camera is doing power intensive actions, such as zooming (it uses a motor). Anyways, Amazon has some generic options for you if your battery may be over-the-hill:

Zoom

Hey bello205,
This camera does not allow the user to actually turn off the optical zoom, but does allow the user to shut off the digital zoom. If you are talking about the digital zoom make sure it is turned on in through the menu system. As far as the optical zoom goes make sure you are not in playback mode. If this doesn't work you can try having the camera reset to the original settings every time you shut off the camera by choosing this option under the setup menu in playback mode. If none of this works have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician.

Sincerely,
Allan

Camera powers up but then shuts down

Check out this similar post - http://www.fixya.com/problems-solutions/t103765,p241282/Ricoh-Digital-Cameras.aspx In your case though, I would try to turn it on with playback mode selected on startup, to prevent the zoom from extending. This way you will know if the problem is connected to the zoom, or other mechanisms. In any case, if it's not a battery/battery door/card problem, you'll need to send it for repair, or find a shop that can handle it, and it's rarely a cheap repair. Good luck
