Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook
Hi. I have one HP pavilon dv1040us and suddenly its screen goes black. Everything in the system works but is more difficult to see the display the image is there, but the trend too dark. I have tried several tips on the Internet as adjusting the intensity or remove and put again the RAM, but has not worked. Thank Your for your help.
Hi, this problem is caused by either a bad inverter or a bad LCD back light. In my experience its usually the back light that is the issue but you should check the inverter with a multimeter first to make sure. Unfortunately, a back light on a LCD panel is not a meant to be a serviceable part, although it can be done (it involves dremeling and soldering), IMO its only worth a shot if you can't find an LCD panel for under $300. The good news is a quick ebay search shows that a compatible LCD screen for your model can be had for about $175 plus shipping.
Here is your models service manual (PDF) which explains how to take the laptop apart.
