I have an HP Pavillion dv1000 and the screen suddenly goes dim with all programs running in the background. When I flip the screen backwards and forwards the screen gets back to normal most of the times but similar surprises never seem to come to an end several times a day!

Hi, this problem is caused by either a bad inverter or a bad LCD back light. In my experience its usually the back light that is the issue but you should check the inverter with a multimeter first to make sure. Unfortunately, a back light on a LCD panel is not a meant to be a serviceable part, although it can be done (it involves dremeling and soldering), IMO its only worth a shot if you can't find an LCD panel for under $300. The good news is a quick ebay search shows that a compatible LCD screen for your model can be had for about $175 plus shipping.
Here is your models service manual (PDF) which explains how to take the laptop apart.
If you can't or don't want to do it yourself I am experienced in doing this type of repair. e-mail me jason(at)jrdtech(dot)net

I have come across this problem, the backlight behind the LCD dims without warning and the only way to fix this issue is replace the backlight, a very difficult repair, mine like yours was a Compaq. Most professional will opt to replace the entire screen.

Hi. I have hp 6735s laptop and when I move him screen suddenly go black or in rare case white and I need to hold power button to shut down and when I turn him on everything is normal until I move him again...

Hi,

When you say you move him, do you mean lifting the unit and moving to another location or just moving the lid (changing angle of the lid/lcd)?

If changing the angle of the display gives you black/white screen, you may be having problem with the LCD cable, it might be loose or defective. But if moving the unit to another location gives you the black/white screen, one component of the unit might be loose. Either you need to properly reinsert the memory of the harddrive. If these simple steps will not resolve the issue then you might need to check the whole motherboard including the connection to the LCD.

Hope this helps.

Hi sir/madam, My laptop's screen doesn't turn on. I thought the screen is gone n need a new one but after trying to turn it on like ten times it turned on everything was perfect but when I tried to restart...

Hi if you are getting nothing at all from the lcd screen (black screen with no cursor or icons) there are two possible causes 1st is the LCD itself it starting to worn out or sometime it is just the simple wire connecting the LCD to the mainboard to get the display that needs to be replaced.
If your getting a black screen with blinking cursor and you can still see the hp logo at startup you just need to update the video card driver of your laptop.
Have the HP check first the hardware side of your system so that they can replace the broken parts. thanks

Hp pavilon dv6000 laptop won't start.it comes on (keyboard lights up and cycles on and off but won't stay on and boot up.

Could be anything but have you tried safestarting in windows. If it wont do this then the BIOS is lost. Use your recovery CD to reboot the system I had a problem like this and it was loose/blown memory module.

If you've checked the battery and power cables are connected properly then you've done as much as you can do, you'll need to take the laptop to a HP repair centre.
