My internet won't work on my new laptop.

Hello!
I just recently purchased a laptop, and when i opened the package and took the laptop out, the internet and everything worked by just plugging the yellow internet cord into it, but this was at my father's house. Now while I'm at my mom's house, the internet won't work when i plug the (ethernet?) yellow cord into my computer from the modem. Will it not work because there's another laptop thats being used from the cord? My internet program is Comcast. I really want to get my laptop working! Thanks for helping!

First turn off you laptop. Second, go to your comcast cable modem unplug it from the wall and wait about 3mins. Now plug the comcast modem back it and wait for all the lights to come back (will take about 2-3mins). Now plug the yellow ethernet cable into your laptop if its not already and turn your laptop on. You should now have internet.

Also if you using a Comcast Surf Board modem be mindful of the standby button on top of the modem. You can tell your in standby mode if the standby light (bottom light) is amber. If it is press the standby button once to get out of standby mode.

hope that helps

- Still not online?
Try this. Take your mouse and click on the START button to bring up the menu. Now find RUN and click on that. Type in CMD and hit ok. A black window will pop up you will see something like c:\documents and settings\username and then a blinking cursor.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter on your keyboard
now you should be on a clean line. Now type ipconfig /release and hit enter you'll see a few things come up like 0.0.0.0. Finally type ipconfig /renew and hit enter. Now check the internet.

If its still not connecting go back to the CMD window. If you closed it just open like I explain above (START>RUN, CMD). When the black CMD windows comes up type IPCONFIG /all scroll and find the heading 'Ethernet adapter local area connection' write everything down under that heading and post it here in this thread.
