Question about Ryobi Three Trimmer Combo

1 Answer

How long can I use the gas for my trimmer? I "think" I bougt it in the Summer of 2008. It is now Summer 2010, so the gas is 2-years old. I did "freshen" it with 1/2 gallon of gas and "about" 1.3 oz of 2-cycle additive in an attempt to boost the potency of the gasoline. This has worked in the past with lawnmowers that use straight gasoline. I see on the additive that there is a claim of it containing a fuel stabelizer. So, is having a portion of the gas at 2-years of age too old? How about if it is 3-years old? Thanks!

Typically, if your gas is more than a few weeks old it is a good idea to replace it. Today's refined fuels tend to evaporate and varnish more quickly. Many trimmer engine problems are solved by using fresh fuel.

I left gas in my trimmer over the summer, now it doesnt start

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes when you leave gas with oil in the carburetor it will form a "shellac" and plug your jets and float assembly.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws and count the number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.
Please do not forget to rate me, Thanks
Good Luck, I hope this helped

Echo trimmer, replaced the spark plug, but trimmer won't crank up. Started up just fine last spring (2nd summer I owned it) Gas appears to be filling the priming bulb, but I don't think it is getting any...

Possibly the gas has went bad, it doesn't take long for that small amount. Try fresh gas/mix but pull the plug and crank it several times to flush out the old gas. Clean the plug and try again. Note; the plugs foul quickly and easily.

My 2 cycle gas trimmer will not start? It's only 2 years old

Have you cleaned the spark plug , replaced it, or the carberation system?
If not, then this could be the problem.
Plug builds up corrosion over a period of time and cleaning is requird. also resetting the gap.
GAs goes stale too to flush out the old gas and put new gas.

Have craftsman 32cc gas line trimmer it runs until given gas

Replace the spark plug, clean the air filter and fill the tank with new fuel at the correct fuel oil ratio. Had the same problem last year. Tried to cheat with year old gas.
