If this unit had worked in the past and has started acting up without being droped, jarred, banged, or slammed around, then it may very well be as easy as dirty optics. Get a lens cleaner kit or a Q-tip with a little glass cleaner and clean off the lens of the optical transport.

If this does not work:

You will need to see what the optical transport is doing. The door needs to be opened and the switch that tells the player the door is closed needs to be tripped (usually with a paper-clip or small tool). Watch the optical transport to make sure it moves back and forth, up and down BUT DO NOT LOOK INTO THE LENS DIRECTLY as this can cause retinal damage. If it does all these things, then the motors are working properly and the issue is either in the optical alignment or the decoder chip.

If it's the optical alignment, you might be able to open the player and start changing the height of the drive placement so the laser focuses more accurately on the disc. This will require a disc with an opaque or printed side to stay in the drive while you calibrate. You can then safely look at the disc and see the red dot of the laser to determine the size of the dot. The smaller the size, the more in focus the laser is. This calibration must be done for the entire length of the oprical transport track. there are two screws that change this on either end and both muse be checked and calibrated. The optical transport has some focus adjustment capability (hence the up and down motion of the optics), but if the transport is beyond the limited capabilities of the auto focus, it needs to be brought back to correct.

CD disk is plays, but DVD disk in no playing,,sometimes dvd plays, mostly no disk

try cleaning the laser lense
If you have a dirty lense it can still read cd because data is not as compressed on dvd, each byte of data takes up far less space on a dvd so the dirty lense might not pick it up whereas it might pick it up on a dvd

Screen says loading. Then says (no disc)

There are a lot of reasons why that could happen. Sometimes when a DVD player needs to be cleaned it won't read a disk.Sometimes when you try to play a NTSC disk on a PAL DVD player or visa versa it won't play. Region coding could be another issue. And sometime home burned DVDs won't play in certain players.

Disney dvd player wont play movies (dvd) but plays music (cd) fine

Might be the type of movie - some of them are only able to play "G" ratings. Try this: click <play> 1234 <play> It will likely unlock the dvd that is in and will begin to play. You will have to do the 'code' each time, or there's an unlock program you can purchase.

Help

sounds like it could be a bad battery or DC input on the player, try getting a replacement battery and see if that fixes the problem, otherwise it could be a bad circuit inside of the DVD Player
