Question about Dell E172FP 17" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

1 Answer

How on earth do I control the volume on a Dell E172FPB monitor?!!

This sounds absolutely ridiculous... I bought a secondhand monitor today (no instructions) but I can't for the life of me find a way to control the volume! There also doesn't seem to be anywhere to connect earphones or to connect the monitor to my stereo. At the moment I have no sound at all. There are two 'plus' and 'minus' buttons next to the switch which I believed to be the volume control... but all this does is auto-adjust the screen. Am I being really blind? Help!

Thanks!

Thanks for this- I wasn't too sure what you meant. Turn the monitor off and then switch the buttons and turn it back on? I tried this but no luck unfortunately. Why do some Dell monitors come without sound?! I didn't realise they even existed until now- how completely useless!

What dell model is it. Most did not have speakers built in. There are clips to install an optional speaker bar on most dell monitors. But it has its own bolume control.

Sounds to me like a power inverter. Fix it yourself with the parts found on Ebay at a cheap cost to yourself. The entire Dell E173FP 17" power inverter is selling for $29.99 plus shipping.

The fix can be found at: http://syscon.wordpress.com/2007/07/13/dell-dell-e172fpb-lcd-backlight-repair/

Cheers and good luck!!

The DELL E172FPb LCD Monitor (switch light flicks green)scr black

hi, extremely common problem for dell 17 in monitors. the capacitors and transistors on the power board internally have gone bad. to get repaired, it may cost 40-50 at a shop. i have repaired these in the past and they always come out well for at least 3 more years. may want to find another monitor though. if you would like steps on how to repair, let me know and i will find my old repair threads to give to you.

You need to open it up and inspect the componente inside, look at the fuse and the transistors in the inverter circuits first, also look for sign of over heating on the board, see pictures here for the guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

There are two possibilities, one is bad caps in the power supply, number two is shorted out transistors (P/N c5706/5707) in the inverter circuits. Please open it up and report back what you see so we can guide you further, see example fo failed monitors due to bad caps, lamps, etc: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

#1 Connect monitor to another system, make sure the issue is the Monitor, not the video card.
#2 Try a different VGA or DVI cable
If the issue is isolated to the monitor, it is cheaper to replace it than to repair it (Refurb 17" LCDs are $69 on Dell's Outlet

Dell E172FPb screen blinking

Hello,

If you've tested turning the monitor on without the VGA cable and it's still blinking I'd say there's a problem with one of the capacitors on the power supply card on your screen, when you're able to check it would you mind telling me the brand / reference of it ?
