Question about Computers & Internet

Copies from my xerox cx865 have dark areas-it is a series of three "bars, running the short length of the paper, though they are darker on one side. this happens even if i just try making a copy of a blank piece of paper. The copies are better if i set the copier to light instead of using auto exposure. i am wondering if it is a corotron wire issue or another setting. in looking inside copier i dont see a physical wire where the corotron wire should be-is it literally a wire strung across the bottom? if so were do i get a replacement wire and how does it get installed

You need to change the magnetic roller. That's what's causing your problems.

Ok well for starters you would normally want to post this under our printers/copiers section in order to have the proper people look at it but your in luck i think i know exactly what your problem is and a simple cleaning of the printer and ink cartridges should fix it this is a link to a very standard copier cleaning procedure which normally will fix any issues with uneven printing

Page has a dark bar along the length of the page copied and it gets darker the more copies you do

Defective toner cartridge. Try sliding out the cartridge, turn it over and slide open the cover/gate that covers the drum. The drum should be clean all the way across. If you see a toner band or anything that would be your proof. 9 times out of 10 this is going to be a bad toner cartridge.

Xc830 copying dark ,down center of page

There are a series of mirrors on the carriage that moves back and forth under the original glass. When dust builds up on these mirrors it makes the copies darker. Since the dust is blown by the optics cooling fan it does not collect evenly which causes areas of the copy to be darker than the others. On this machine you just have to remove the original guide plate which is the plate with 4 screws in it and has the document size numbers on it. Once that is removed the glass can be lifted out. With the power turned off just gently pull out the scanner bar. The part that initially comes out has 1 mirror as well as a silver reflecting strip on it. Clean both. Now the assembly that follows the first assembly out has 2 mirrors on it. 1 facing downward and 1 facing upward. Clean these 2 mirrors. Re-nstall the glass and plate. Turn the machine on and let the scanner unit home itself. Once warmed up make a copy to test. Cleaning these surfaces will usually correct the problem. There are 2 more mirrors under the black box under the glass but those do not get as dirty and they are harder to get to.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Poor copy quality

The drum, developer and other parts have a certain life that they are good for. After they go beyond that cycle they can start to run dirty, use alot more toner, basically give you problems until a complete maintenance is done. The drum can have permanent light fatigue, even though they look good and in alot of cases one side will start to get darker than the other. You should get an estimate of what it'll cost to have servicing done and compare that with the cost of a new or refurbed machine. If the copier is very old, it might be worth it to get a new one. Good luck, please rate this if it helped you. Thanks

First place an original on glass and make a copy -- mark #1. With that same original on the glass, move the exposure all the way light and make a copy -- mark #2. Again with the same original on the glass, move the exposure all the way dark and make a copy --- mark #3. Place #1 in the middle so the the copies read --- #2, #1, #3. The #2 should be the lightest and #3 being the darkest. If #2 is darker than #3 you have a developer problem and you need to call for service. If #1 and #2 are bad and #3 is a good copy your machine probably just needs a good cleaning, mainly the optics and charge units. If all 3 copies are still poor with the speckles, your are looking at the PCU ( photo conductive unit) also called the drum unit. You can order this unit online -- it is a customer replaceable item.

Copier too dark

Did you clean the lens and the mirror under the lens cover? If so, There is a VR behind the front cover of most small Xerox machines. One VR makes the image darker/lighter and one VR changes the lead edge registration.
