Hello,
It could be a firmware problem, you can update your firmware but be sure to update to the latest official, stable version. If you have problems only with this type of media and all others are OK, I would recommend you to use different media.

DVD burners will only write to the maximum stated.

Also if you are using 4x DVDs then that is all they will burn at without often giving errors when used.

Trying to burn a 4x DVD at lets say 16x can cause burn failure or data corruption.

Cd's on the other hand can burn at lower speeds than they are stated.

To burn DVDs at higher speeds your burner needs to be capable of that speed

My nec dvd rwnd 3500ag does not burn 16x dvd's when i use it with nero with memorex 16x dvd blank disks it comes up with an error, it had no problems burning the old format 4 or 8 x disks, is their a...

1) Do not pay attention to speed burning, in my opinion the slower the better.

2) the burner may be dusty, buy a dry dvd lens cleaner and use it.

3) try other media like Verbatiom or Teac and compare results.

4) the lifespan of any burner (depends on use) is about 18 months (my nec 7170-AD stopped working after 10 months), you may have exeded the life span of your burner, replace with new one.

Cannot burn Memorex DVD-R 16x

I hate being so simple on these questions, but these problems are always a process of elimination. First thing you always do in situations like this - try another brand of disc. Good luck!

could you provide more info? the model number of the drive for exmaple. are you sure your using rewriteable DVD's? sorry to point out the obvious but id kick myself if i didnt check. Also you can goto the manufactuers website and if there is a firmware upgrade for your model of DVD writer.

NEC DVD-RW 16x DL

If you switched to a different brand of DVD's try using the brand you used before. DVD burners are tested with certain brands of DVD's and sometimes the brands that aren't on that list don't work.
