All pools and valves are different depending on pipe location, equiptment and where the plumber wanted to put them when it was installed. If you are comfused you should get a pool guy out to figgure it out an direct you on how to run the system.

I have almost no flow from my Hayward Sand Filter VL40T32. What do I need to do to get the flow back?

Look at your pressure gauge. If it is reading high, you have a clogged filter. Open filter and clean out or replace sand.

If it is reading low, you have a pump/ suction issue. Check the o-ring on the pump basket lid and make sure it is lubed and has no cracks. Check your basket for cracks. The pump impeller could be clogged. The pump may be pulling air in through a suction fitting or a small crack.

Can the Navigator be adjusted for the speed?

The Speed of a Navigator is adjusted by water flow. There is no adjustment on the unit itself. The more flow through the unit the faster it will go. If the unit moves too fast or too slow proper cleaning may be sacrificed. The proper flow can be achieved using the flow meter that comes with the unit.

Many pools are set up with multiple shut-off valves in front of the pump. These regulate flow from bottom suction lines, skimmer suction lines, and vacuum suction lines. If you have these valves, make sure the valve on the line the vacuum is attached to is fully open and then adjust the flow by closing off the other valves slowly until proper flow is reached. This is where the flow meter is used.

If there are no valves and the Navigator is moving too fast, an in-line valve is also supplied with the unit and can be used to regulate the flow. This valve is installed between the vac hose and the port where the vacuum is connected to the pool (side port or skimmer).

My bug worked great last season but this year I will find it stopped in the pool not moving, I will pick it up and push on the feet to get them running again and it will stop again, what do I need to

It may be that you have one of several possible problems that could be the reason for the symptom you are experiencing:
  • Low water flow thru circulation system
    • Dirty Filter
    • Baskets filled with debris
    • Clogged Pump Impeller
    • Clogged suction line between suction port and actual cleaner
    • Clogged/plugged cleaning unit itself
  • Worn gear assembly within the LadyBug

Low flow rate

You probably have debris clogged in the impeller. The pump has to be opened to clean or repair the impeller.

The problem with sizing between a pump and a filter is if you have too big a pump it can damage the filter. The pump should more be sized according to size of the pool and therefore if the turnover rate is good enough. If you are getting adequate cleaning and chlorination with this pump then it is just fine. On the other hand you could have a problem with the system. The filter could be in need of cleaning, air could be getting into the suction, or the pump impeller could be plugged, etc.

I hope this helps.

How do i vacuum my pool yahoo.com

The first thing you need to do is make sure the pump is primed and able to draw water from the pool and return it with full flow to the pool. Now turn it off and make sure that your hose fits into the suction port and that the hose connects correctly to the vacuum head and the pool pole fits to the vacuum head. Next you need to disconnect the vacuum from the suction port and place the vacuum head with the hose and pole connected to it onto the bottom of the pool. Now force the hose straight down into the pool so it forces water into the hose and forces all the air out of the end that connects to the suction port. Keep forcing more and more hose into the pool until all the hose is filled with water. This is called "sinking the hose". The end of the hose can now be connected to the suction port. When the pump is turned on it should start pumping water from the hose into the pump and when flow is able to draw dirt as you move the vacuum across the bottom of the pool until it is clean. I hope this helps.

Hayward flo pump motor repair

What exactly is wrong with your pool pump? If it won't start at all, check for improper or loose connections, blown fuses or tripped breakers, and open your switches and replays. Manually check the rotation of your motor shaft. Make sure that there is free movement and no obstructions. If the motor hums, but won't start, check for obstructions and check the Centrifugal switch to see if it is stuck in the open position. If you have low flow, check pool pumps for clogged or restricted strainer/suction line and discharge line of filter. You could also have an air leak in suction (bubbles issuing from return fittings). Low voltage could cause loss of suction. Check for plugged or restricted impeller.

If you have a pressure gage it would help .. if the pressure is high then there is probably an obstruction in the return pipe to the pool .. if the pressure is low then there is most likely a restriction in the supply or suction side of the pump .. this would seem more likely to me from your description, there may be something obstructing the flow into the pump, a clog, a collapse hose from the suction, some flap of pool liner .. something like that ..

Hooking up five hoses to my hayward pump/filter

Your system has a suction side and a discharge side. Skimmer and bottom drain hook to the suction side. Returns (discharge) return via chlorinator or other sanitary system and heater if appropriate, to ports in the side of the pool.
