Your proplem could be caused by poor air flow. Make sure all the screens on the unit are clean and free of obstrutions. Also you leave at least 4inches of free space all around the unit.

I have a carrier air conditioner 38TKB024. About 15 years old I think. Accidentally ran it with the cover still on after the winter. shut it off after about a day when I realized. Went to try it the next...

Hopefully its just the run capacitor that is shorted. The run capacitor looks like a big battery, located in the electrical section of the outdoor unit. If it is shorted, it will be "pregnant" or bloated. Not a very expensive part until you have to call somebody out to change it.

A fan capacitor can be bad 'without' showing any visible defects - so - I would 'First" try a new capacitor, be sure to take the old one (after you've marked the wires for easy re-wiring) and get an exact replacement.

However, a fan motor running at a 'reduced speed' as yours is doing is - more than likely - because of a defective/shorted motor, although replacing the cap is a smart move (since it's possibly the problem here) and so much cheaper than a new motor.

I'm thinking the moter is shorted - but it's possible the cap is (shorted) - in which case it's possible that the shorted cap has shorted the motor too - meaning a new cap is essential when installing a new motor so it doesn't happen again.

You might look around in your electrical compartment (with the power off) for any sign of shorts, i.e. burnt wires, blackened areas around metal, etc. etc, although I wouldn't hold much hope for that being the problem. Note: if you find a short 'before' changing the fan capacitor - I would "still" change the cap.

If you find a short (in the electrical wires) - you can fix/repair it and 'clear the short,' and see if the motor will run correctly.

fyi - I was once told a 'shorted motor' will not run.
In my experience I've seen "plenty" shorted motors that 'run,' albeit usually at a slower speed - so don't let anyone tell you a shorted motor won't run.

good luck!

Compressor appears to kick in, runs for short time

It sounds like your unit may have a bad run capacitor or start capacitor and relay. Low voltage will also cause this problem. First you need to make sure that you have the full rated voltages at the unit, if you do, then, have the run and start capacitors checked out and the start relay.

Infocus in26 fan runs continually

Hello,
The fan does run continuously on this projector however it should be running very very slow when the projector has completed it's lamp cool down routine.
The reason for this is that a portion of the switching power supply remains energized (running) when the projector is at rest. But as I mentioned it should run very slow in this state. If it remains running full blast then most likely the fan speed control chip is shorted which can cause fail 2 ways, either the fan 1. runs full
speed or 2. remains stalled (then the projector will go over-temp and shut itself down) I hope this answers you question.

Cheers

HRM Support

There are five easy steps you should take: 1. Roughly estimate your maximum heart rate (MHR) by subtracting your age from 220 (or a little more accurately, 214-(0.8 x age) for men, and 209-(0.9 x age) for women. If you're a regular runner, you can test yourself for your MHR by warming up and then doing a combination of short, fast runs as follows, ideally on a treadmill: run as fast as you can, evenly, for three minutes, then rest with two or three minutes gentle running, then repeat your three-minute maximal run; at some stage during the second effort you should get a higher MHR value than with any other method. 2. Work out your training zones: 50-60 per cent of maximum for easy recovery runs; 60-70 per cent for basic weight management; 70-80 per cent for aerobic training; and 80-100 per cent for threshold runs and speed training. The figures are more accurate if you find percentages of your working heart rate, then add them to your resting heart rate. You find your working heart rate by subtracting your resting heart rate from your maximum. 3. If you don't already have a training schedule, plan your runs for the week ahead and allocate a target heart rate zone for each run. 4. Stick to these zones. 5. Be alert for unusual readings. If you're ill, tired, stressed or not fully recovered from a race, then your resting heart rate may be higher than normal. If it's 5-10 beats above normal, make your day's run an easy one. Any higher than that and you should definitely have a rest day.

Refrigerator burning rubber smell when it tries to turn on

sounds like the relay on the compressors is getting hot and cutting the unit out, if the fridge is quite old it may well be the run windings gone short circuit in the compressor pot. The relay switches from start to run windings so may be firing the start circuit, switching over to a shorted run winding, and then getting hot and activating the thermal cutout and hence the burnig smell, plus the start and rapid shut down of the compressor.
