Question about Sony RDR-HX520 DVD Recorder

2 Answers

I own the sony dvd recorder RDR-HX520, when i copy from harddrive to dvd everything goes well untill finalising. After finalising the disc can not be played on the dvd player. When I copy and I check the dvd with title list then it works but when I get the dvd out of the machine it has to be finalised and after that the dvd doesn't work anymore. Does anyone have a sollution?

    Thanks for your reply!
I think it's strange that burning the cd works but finalising doesn't. Since this is a dvd player with harddrive (so not a computer) I can't install other drivers. I was hoping that there would be a way to 'reset' the device. I allready tried resetting to factory settings.

I think it's strange that burning the dvd works, it just won't properly finalise.

If the disc no longer loads on your computer with the data it was suppose to have been written too it may be a finalizing error and you would want to make sure you have all the updated drivers and are using compatible software for it. If after burning the disc it is not being read on other dvd players and is not being read by your own dvd drive on computer or player than it is definitely a hardware problem and will most likely need to be replaced or returned if still under warranty

hope this helps

have you tried resetting both machines, also if they where stored somewhere cool and then brought into a warmer area it may just be condensation, if this is the case leve the machine to acclimatise for an hour first.
To reset power up and remove all discs, then press and hold the Stop button on the machine and then press the power button, the unit will power off and will be reset to factory default.

HI, i try to copy a Hi8-Tape to DVD, t works but i can't play it on another DVD-Player. Whats the problem. Thank's.

Depending on the format of the DVDs you record, some may not be compatible for playback on other DVD players, even if you FINALISE the disc in this recorder before playing it anywhere else. Assuming you are using the correct DVD format (for example, DVD-R), did you finalise the disc in this recorder after transferring your tape? if not, that would be the reason why the DVD won't play in another machine (I am also assuming you have everything set up correctly to enable smooth transferring - picture, sound, etc.).

Most modern DVD players recognise various disc formats (+R/-R/-R DL etc) but all of these must be finalised in the appropriate drive prior to make playback anywhere else possible. There should be a menu option or similar on this model recorder which would allow you to finalise the recording - you should only do this if you are completely happy with what you recorded, and it turned out OK. Until you finalise the recorded disc it will not work anywhere else but the deck it was written in.

I hope there is no major issue with the deck in this unit which would prevent you from finalising your discs - and achieving some success with playback in other units. The last thing anyone would want is a batch of drink coasters.

Hi there, My sony rdr hx510 will not open and is making a grinding rotating sound. Baby girl either put 1 one or 2 discs in incorrectly. Can you advise on how I can get it opened and renove the discs.

Must used a philip screw driver take out all the screws to the dvd player.Must take the DVD player aparts.Take aparts out the dvd player guard shield to the dvd drive to take out the dvd dic or dics out.Don't push the open button any more, the disc or discs is jamming ur dvd door tray. Will burn out ur disc tray motor,if u keep trying push the open button, trying opening it that way.

If the DVD asembly is the same as for model RDR-HX510, the part number is 1-797-247-12 and costs: $358.56 with a refund of $145 upon the return of the defective unit. Pricing was from tritronicsinc.com a Sony parts distributor. (I could not find a listing for the HX520 model)

Hope this helps.

Here's the link to the manual; http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=RDRGX315 check page 67 - it sounds like your discs need to be finalised before you can read them elsewhere Hope this helps, if you dont find what you need please ask again :)
