Lexmark x1270 prints but is coming out grey and slightly streaky. Tried printing a test page and this came out the same, however ink levels are shown to be full. Haven't used the printer since christmas but didn't think that it would have this effect?
Remove the carts & using a wet paper towel, clean the nozzles on the carts to see if your getting any traces of ink. U can also go to the solution center & under maintainence u will fine an option Clean to fix horizontal. try this twice that should also clear any blocks then try this
Printer power OFF
Hold down the PAPER FEED button while powering the printer ON
Release button after powering printer ON
Test is continuous, so turn off when printing is complete
If the cart has any ink it will print 3 color lines & a blk line

It could be that your black cartridge needs cleaning or is not properly seated in the carrier. Open the printer cover and reseat the black cartridge. Close the printer cover. Open Lexmark Solution Center on your computer. Go to Maintenance tab and select Clean to fix horizontal lines. Your printer will then print a test page forcing ink through the nozzles and clean them.
Try these steps after these if you face the same problem then you need to get the cart exchanged as it may be defective as Lexmark cart comes with 6 months warranty ...
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. # Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right). # Continue doing this until it looks clean. # Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing. # Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier. 2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.
Can you print out a test page? if not send the cartridge back to the supplier as it is the cartridge, I was told Lexmark cartridges are brittle and you have to be careful.
Tell me more about it? I have had a LOT of these problems.
Also try putting the cartridge onto a damp cloth and see if that can open it up and another way to open the ink in to pop it into a cup of boiling water, when that is done you should see the ink coming out.
