Question about Radio Shack TRC-447 CB Radio

1 Answer

I have a TRC-447. First problem was it wouldn't fit in my Ford Ranger. No room any where. So I hooked it up in the house with a multi-adapter. One day it quit working. I replaced a burned out fuse 2A.It burnt that one out on the spot. Put in another one , same thing. Took it out to the truck and using a plug in I hooked it up only to have it do the same thing. It just keeps burning up fuses and there is a metalic smell too. Got any idea whats wrong with it or what I did to it? It was a great radio and I paid alot for it(for me).

That radio needs a MIN.4 A. Fuse. If the output has been torqued you will have to use a 5 A.fuse..However, the metalic smell tells me that you may have hooked the power leads backwards ?" ? They don't loke that one little bit ! ! Too bad....those were good radios axdn the President Grant is the same chassis< the latter has some minor diff's, but all parts are interchangable. Back to above...be sure the power is correct and do try new larger fuses. Good luck

Are you talking about the adapter? Any 13.8 volt adapter that the allows the plug to fit properly should work . Just make sure it fits snug and make contact .

Big finals and how to install them for radio shack trc-447

It doesn't make a difference how big your final is the radio will not except it. What I'm saying is if you install a 100 watt final into it ,no matter what you will only get a max of 25 watts because the radio cannot handle the 100 watt load.No if you start changing components inside the radio to obtain the 100 watts you are now in violation of fcc rules , unless you are a licensed tech , if you were then why are you asking this question. The best thing to do do is get a 100 watt amp and hook it up. you will be smoking the neighborhood.

Need a replacement mic for a TRC 447. Can't find one, and Radio Shack is of no help....AT ALL !!!!

The radio takes an electret condenser microphone. You can also use a dynamic type in a pinch, but audio quality and strength varies depending on the microphone. Several sources for replacements came up from a search, and here's one. If you need to rewire the plug or install a different one to fit the replacement mike to the radio, wiring information is here.

Radio shack trc-447

According to the service manual for the TRC-447, the only adjustment is for "power" which is #L205. The only other step in the transmitter alignment is for the "S" meter.
On the Cobra, VR4 is AMC, L14,L13,L12 is AM power.
