The MOST LIKELY problem is in your power supply inside that will require either a good deal of technical skills AND desoldering equipment, OR a ton of grey matter and a burning desire to learn something new, (in which case you're subjecting yourself to possible severe electrical shock). To go on, you'd need an ESR tester to check out the status of capacitors AFTER you've located the power supply internally. IF you've gotten this far, you CAN order exact replacements from Digi-Key in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. PLEASE pay attention to my word of caution about electrical shock, and I wish you well.

Have a 400 watt power supply just bought e6700 CPU should I Change power supply

You can never over kill on your power supply. I would get a power supply in the 600 or 700's range there just more reliable. I have built my computer and i have duel video cards and stuff but i went just a tad over for my power supply doesn't have to try all that much. If you buy a new one get one with a fan its much better.

My computer was knocked forward it went bang and then smelt of burning - I have been told that it might be the internal powe pack can you help?

If your desktop computer went bang from the back of the computer and the burnt smell comes from the fan grill of the power supply then the switch mode power supply definitely failed. The bang and burning smell was probably one or more of the capacitors that has exploded inside the power supply.
You can replace the switch mode power supply, make sure you purchase one that has the same total wattage or higher wattage.
There is a chance that when the power supply failed it may have caused a voltage spike that could have damaged some other components. You won't know until you replace the faulty power supply.

Power supply not working?

To see if power supply works
unplug the psu from the motherboard and drives
then plug the power cord into psu and wall
the fan should come on letting you know that it works.

you can also get a multimeter and check each individual connector on the 20/24 pin connector to motherboard.
check the psu docs for the correct voltages to each pin

If you smelled smoke then chances are that something may have gotten toasted.
remove all expansion cards and try to turn on computer if nothing happens then the motherboard may have gotten toasted.
Check the motherboard and expansion cards along with memory for shorts and burn spots.

TV wont turn on due to power outage

I know it's been a while since you have sent this request, but if you havn't gotten any help or repaired the set by now, I'll try to help if I can. Your set has a seperate power supply board internally. The fuse could be burned out on that board. Also if you did in fact get a power surge, you may have a capacitor or a series of capacitors bad. Check the fuse first and if this is not the problem, I suggest you replace the power supply board as they are not real expensive. Good luck and I hope this has helped in some way

Board power up failure

Well the say never answer a question with a question, so i will simply post 2 answers.

1. If you built the PC yourself, you may need to look at power requirements for this particular motherboard and perhaps transplant the board into a case with a larger power supply.
(ie: 300, 350 watt power supply or better )

2. If this is an older PC and someone else built it for you, you may need to consider that power supply units do burn out in time and may need to be replaced.

The power LED simply means there is power coming to the light itself, but may not be enough to sustain an entire motherboard and components etc.
This to me sounds very much like either the power supply is too small or burned out.
