Toner/drum problems We replaced our toner for the first time and cannot get it to work. It keeps telling us to slide the blue clip on the drum back and forth, which we have done x100. We tried to reset the drum but it is still giving us the same message. Help please!!!

it's the drum, not the toner, that is giving us problems. we've done all that and I read through all of Brother's FAQs before posting here. the error message we are getting is "slide clip on drum back and forth" or something like that.

I have exactly the same problem. Refilled toner myself, resetted cartridge. Then it was working for about a month absolutely fine - that means around 1000 pages printed.

now it prints one page at most before giving this problem message

This seems to happen some of the time. Brother has an FAQ for this:

1. Verify the toner cartridge is installed correctly by following the
steps listed below:

a. Open the front cover.

b. Lift the drum unit slightly and pull it out. Place the drum unit on
adrop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and
scattering the toner.

c. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum by holding down the lock
lever (blue tab) on the left side of the drum unit and lift the toner
out.
*Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands
or clothes, immediately wash it off with cold water.

d. Gently rock the toner cartridge from side to side five or six times
to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge.

e. Place the toner cartridge into the drum (be sure it clicks into
place).

f. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding
the blue tab on the top of the cartridge from right to left several
times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the
drum unit assembly.

g. Reseat the drum unit into the machine.

h. Close the front cover.

2. If the message "Toner Life End" continues to appear on the display,
contact Brother Customer Service at 1-877-Brother (276-8437) Monday
through Friday, 9:00am - 7:00pm EST, excluding holidays.

I have done all of the above. My Fax still says drum error and refer to maintainence guide which I do not have. Does that mean I need to purchase a new drum and new toner? Kathy

Save money by removing your drum units waste toner yourself.By removing waste toner the drum life will be increased.Remove the waste toner every 3 to 5 thousand prints.

The main cause of drum failure in this model is caused by waste toner build up at the back of the drum, this cause the drum cleaning blade to put more pressure on the drum and.

Reinstall the plug and connect the drum and developer unit with the two clips.Reinstall the unit.

HOW TO REMOVE TONER CARTRIDGE TO REPLACE WITH NEW ONE

Hi,

1. Grasp the front cover of the printer and pull it toward you to open the toner door. Reach into the printer and grab the combined toner cartridge/drum assembly. Lift up slightly and pull it out of the front of the printer.

2. Place the cartridge and drum on a paper towel, spare sheet of paper, rag or other surface that can get dirty. Loose toner particles may spill from the cartridge.

3. Press the blue locking lever on the cartridge/drum unit to unlock the toner cartridge from the drum. Lift the toner cartridge up and away from the drum unit. Dispose of the old toner cartridge in accordance with your local regulations. Seal it in a plastic bag to keep loose toner from spilling.

5. Place the new toner cartridge onto the drum unit and press it down gently until it locks into place. The blue locking lever will automatically click into place. Verify that the toner cartridge is securely connected to the drum.

How do i change the toner on m my HL 2040 brother printer

How to Change a Toner Cart in a Brother HL 2040

The Brother HL 2040 laser printer has a toner cartridge that supplies toner to the drum assembly so that the printer can print properly. When the LED on the front of the printer indicates you are low on toner, you will need to replace the toner cartridge to maintain good print quality. Fortunately, the toner cartridge can be replaced without any special tools.

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Replacement toner cartridge (part number TN350 or TN360)
* Paper towel or scrap paper

Grasp the front cover of the printer and pull it toward you to open the toner door. Reach into the printer and grab the combined toner cartridge/drum assembly. Lift up slightly and pull it out of the front of the printer.

Place the cartridge and drum on a paper towel, spare sheet of paper, rag or other surface that can get dirty. Loose toner particles may spill from the cartridge.

Gently shake your new toner cartridge back and forth a few times to distribute the toner evenly across the width of the cartridge. Remove the plastic protective cover from the bottom of the cartridge.

Place the new toner cartridge onto the drum unit and press it down gently until it locks into place. The blue locking lever will automatically click into place. Verify that the toner cartridge is securely connected to the drum.

Locate the corona wire cleaner tab at the front of the drum unit. Slide it back and forth several times to improve the print quality of the drum. Set the tab back in the home position when finished.

Slide the combined toner cartridge/drum unit back into the printer and close the front cover.

Hope it helps...

I have a Canon Imagerunner 1310 and I am getting a message that my waste tomer is full and that I need to prepare a new drum. What does this mean? Can I do it on my own? Will I need to buy something?

Most of the time, if your copies are good, all you have to do is dump the waste toner from the drum. Slide the top to the left and raise the blue cover on the right. Lift the drum and developer unit out of the copier. At the top of the drum you will see a quarter size white plug that should be removed and gently turned over and gently shaken over a trash can to empty the drum. It doesn't have to be emptied completely. If your copies are bad then the drum has to be replaced. Not that hard for the lay person. Lift blue clips and the drum separates from the developer assembly. There was a Canon modification to use two small screws to keep the drum and developer together should the blue clips move out of position. These may have to be removed and put back. Raise the drum guard to make reassembly easier.

How does one replace the toner cartridge on the hl 2040 printer

Open the front cover (it tilts down from the top). Pull out the drum and toner cartridge assembly. Place this on newspaper or something that can be disposed of later to contain any spilled toner. Do not touch the electrodes on the unit. Push down on the blue lock lever to release the toner cartridge and slide it out (push slightly down and then lift up) of the drum. Place the old toner in a bag for disposal to contain the remaining toner. Open the package for the new toner cartridge and hold it level. Gently rock the cartridge from side to side to get the toner evenly distributed. Pull off the protective cover and slide it into the drum until it locks into place (the blue lever will return to the original position). Slide the blue tab from left to right and back several times to clean the corona wire then return the tab to the home position (marked by an up arrow).

Slide the drum assembly back into the printer and close the front cover.

I hope this helps.

A white piece of paper is printing out gray....think the toner is ok as the ink is black...something need to be cleaned?

Hello,

Two things can cause this type of problem, 1 bad drum unit or 2 dirty corona wire.

HTML clipboard Below are the directions to clean the wire.
1. Open the front cover and pull out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
2. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3. Return the blue tab and click it into the Home position.
4. Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly in the MFC/Printer.
5. Close the front cover.

Be sure to return the sliding blue tab back to the home position next to the arrow or you will have dark streaks on your printouts.

If this does not solve the problem then you will need to replace the transfer drum in the printer. The part number for the drum is DR-400 or DR400.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Open the front cover and take out the toner/drum unit. On the top of the drum unit you will see a blut tab that you can slide side to side. Do this 10+ times and this should fix your issue. Make sure to put the blue tab back in the original start position which is believe is to the left on that model.

Dust on Drum...

I had this problem too. I took out the drum and vacuum the drum with a vacuum cleaner ( no brush ) while at the same time manually rotate the drum cyclinder. It worked. After a month or two, you might have to do it again. But everytime, it solved the dust problem.
