Are you using SD? I think there is a mechanical slide on the card that can prevent it from being written to, maybe you hit it on accident? If this is the case and the slide is not in protect mode, there may be a mechanical switch in the memory slot that is out of alignment that "reads" the position of the slide.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Why does my Vivitar vivicam x018 keep saying "card

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If this doesn't do it, try another card.

Vivitar 5386 says works with xp but doesn't say

Is the little switch down on the SD card in lock mode. If so move it in the direction of the connection of the card and try again.

Card protected

When the card is protected you need to remove it first. You can slide the small button at right side of the card so that it will be being protected. After you've slide the small button you can use your camera.

Vivitar vivcam5188 say protected card wont let me take photos only new problem

remove the memory card, there is usually a switch on them - move it to the other position.

its to protect the data on the card (so you can't write to the card).
