Question about Bosch SHU9956 Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

My power button cover broke on the dishwasher and I figured out the part number I needed, but when I put it back together I got the wires crossed on the board and door switch. Now the control lights up , but the dishwasher will not run a cycle. THe question is does the plug on the door switch have to be a certain way, because there are three wires and you can connect the plug both ways. I did turn the plug, but it still does not run. Did I break the switch? Bosch SHU9956uc/14

The wires do have to be a certain way on the door. Otherwise a door open can tell the board that's it shut and vice versa. The easiest way to do it, is test the switch with an ohmmeter, place the meter on the switch, push button in and see if the reading drops to no reading, then you know which wire should go where

Resetting the board in dishwasher

If there is a procedure to reset your board it would be to remove power, then restore power to the dishwasher and press certain combination of buttons within certain number of seconds. As far as I remember that procedure was available and was described in tech documentation for Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid and Kenmore dishwashers. I don't recall such procedure for Maytags.
The tech documents are usually under the kick panel, which is under the dishwasher door.
The "hard" reset procedure for any control board would be the following sequence (standard electrical safety and common sense rules apply):
  • remove power (unplug, turn off circuit breaker, etc.)
  • access the control board; with Maytag dishwashers it would be inside the door
  • make a picture or descriptive list of all plugs and wires connected to the board so you could reconnect those later
  • make sure you don't have an electrical charge on yourself - touch the grounded part of the dishwasher, usually the frame
  • CAREFULLY (you can damage your board) disconnect all plugs and wires from the board
  • with a large flat blade screwdriver or any other metal tool insulated from your hand, briefly short the connectors on the board. If you can identify where the power wires connect to the board - short those between each other first.
  • put all plugs back using the picture or the description you've made before disconnecting; put the appliance back together. turn on the power.

Good luck,

When the unit was running it quit the display went blank? is there a fuse somewhere, all i can find is a printed control panel. DU1055 model.

Does it function at all? If not it's prob not the fuseable link. I'd put money that you have a bad contriol (the circuit board has shorted). I have the same model. Mine shut down during a wash cycle - totally dead. It has power but doesn't function. The wiring diagram (located down on your kick plate) explains how to test various components. Two things you can do when the unit has power but is dead - Turn off the power to the unit. Open the door and unscrew the six screws that hold the top of the dishwasher together. The front top control will now be loose. On the backside there is a gray cover. push the tabs back and remove this cover - make sure the power is shut off at the breaker). Under the cover you will see your circuit board and a bunch of wires. There is a 14 pin connector that connects the circuit board to the key pad. push the tabs back and lift out the circuit board. carefully unplug the 14 pin connector and leave it unplugged. Put your circuit board back in and install the gray cover over the controls - leaving the 14 pin connector unhooked. install the six screws - basically putting the thing totally back together. Leave the dishwasher door open and turn the breaker (power) back on. Count to five and close the door. If you have a bad key pad your dishwasher drain motor will cut on and run for 2 min. If the control is bad (the circuit board) nothing will happen. The control is fairly easy to replace - costs around $122 bucks for parts. Hope this helps!
Oh yeah, if you want to check the fuseable link it's the round thing on the circuit board - has two black wires going into it. MAKE SURE the power is turned off at the breaker before you mess with this.

DDW399W Danby Power button won't stay in place...washer powers down

I know your post is a bit old. I solved this by opening the outer shell and removing all screws attaching the control panel. The power switch needs to be replaced. I looked everywhere (including radio shack and lowes) but sears parts department is the best!

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=DDW399W&productCategoryId=0130000&brandId=3055&modelName=DISHWASHER&diagramPageId=00004&componentDescription=CONTROL%20PANEL&documentId=50031886&backToLink=Return%20to%20Sub%20Components%20list

This should be the link of a diagram and info on the parts. They have just about every screw and bolt you need to repair you Danby. Also they have diagrams to show how it is all put together!

Good Luck!

Hobart Dishwasher electrical connection

Hi chefmail,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

You want to know: Somebody disconnected our AM-14 to redo the floor, and left it disconnected. You know basically where the wires went, but could use some help or a diagram.

I generally don't recomend this to the average homeowner so lets assume you're above average.
Lets also assume that the fellow who removed it knew what he was doing (he should have reinstalled it for you).
If all you need is help with the wireing:
First double check that the power is off.
There should be a romex connector a few inches from the end of the wire. If it's not there he may have left it attached to the junction box under the d/w. You must use a romex connector to connect the wire to the junction box. Make sure the romex connector is on the cover insulation not on the individual wires. The wires are color coded. Connect the blacks together, the whites together and the ground to the green wire (sometimes to a gound screw). Be carefull that the wire nuts are tight but none of the wire ends broke. Before you put the cover on finish instaling the d/w, water line, drain line, counter screws and be carefull to make sure the d/w is perfectly level. Turn on the water and check for leaks. Turn on the power and test the unit. Then put the junction box cover on. All that's left is the kick plate. If you run into problems you might consider utilizing our Repair Directory to find a repairman.
