Question about Hoover S3765-040 WindTunnel Bagless Canister Vacuum

4 Answers

I have a Hoover Windtunnel Canister vacuum model S3765. The main motor goes on fine but when I use the motorized carpet floor head, the main motor turns off (the motor in the attachment stays on).

It is the main motor that stops when I start the motorized head, so section also stops. It seems like the vacuum can't support both motors running at the same time.

The problem seems to be in either the main motor itself or in the connection between the hose and the circuit to the main motor. Sometimes if I let the main motor run for 10 minutes without moving the vacuum, then I can carefully run the motorized head (as long as nothing jiggles the main hose where it clucks into the canister). Lately even this fix isn't working.

This is not normal behavior; when the main motor shuts off there is no suction. So the motorized heads spins, but then spits back out all the dirt. Normally both heads work together to vacuum carpets. Now I can turn on the main motor but when I turn on the motorized head, the main motor cuts out. It is not a problem with the motorized head as far as I can see, but a problem with the main motor or a connection with the main motor.

Hate to say it, but this vacuum sounds like "lemon" should have been it's middle name, as reported on these net reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-should-selling-since-Hoover/forum/Fx15VTMCB3VVG0C/Tx3SKTXNJGI0DTC/1/ref=cm_cd_dp_ef_tft_tp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00008UI0R&store=kitchen
This blog explains a switch problem fix, which could be your problem:
http://www.amazon.com/Broken-buttons-Heres-real-problem/forum/Fx15VTMCB3VVG0C/Tx34W1XDNY219O7/1/ref=cm_cd_tp_ft_tft_tp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00008UI0R
It seems like either these are very good, or very faulty, from reviews.
I would run it into a vacuum repair shop and see what they think, they deal with tricky problems all the time.
Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

Hi,
In motorized carpet floor head, mode the suction will be different from
normal one.In this mode main motor will switch off and attachment stays
on.Two motors can stay on at the same time. The suction will be more if
the main motor stays on.So in this mode only the attachment motor stay
On.If you want to make both motors run in carpet floor mode. Then you have
to give short the main motor circuit with attachment motor so both will run.

post a comment for further assistance.
Thank you for using fixya have a nice day:-)

The suction is provided via a large motor, while the brush-roll is powered by a separate, smaller motor, which does not create any suction. The brush-roll motor can sometimes be switched off, so hard floors can be cleaned without the brush-roll scattering the dirt. It may also have an automatic cut-out feature, which shuts the motor off if the brush-roll becomes jammed, protecting it from damage.
So check the brush roll and clean it.then again check if motor turns off .
Check out.Keep updated.Thanks.

If you light and nozzle motor both go off at the same time, you might have a bad power cord. Mine had this problem which I could verify by jiggling/twisting the cord near the strain relief on the nozzle. It would go on and off as I did this. The cord is cheap to replace, around $13 for the part shipped. Part number is 59134072.

You are correct, the motor is done. Look at your local vac store for a quality vacuum made by Sebo or Miele. Replacing motors in chinese made vacs is a waste of money as the whole product was made to last only a couple of years

Belt will not stay on hoover windtunnel s3765

The Hoover Windtunnel™ Self-Propelled models have two belts, a flat belt and the V-Belt. This V-Belt is the one that drives the Brush Roller. After about three months, most belts stretch out causing them to slip. This means the brushroll turns slower or not at all and the self-propelled becomes increasingly harder to push. It is recommended that both belts should be changed at the same time.

Carpet power head will not stay attached to telescoping wand

to answer your last statement, if you do not have a receipt, the warranty will go by the date ofyour serial number. the first 4 digits are the month and year. this model usually has a 1 year wty. the wand button may not be protruding as far due to dirt under the metal band. however you may still have an issue with the neck on the powerhead which will require shop service.
