This happened to me as well. What I did was to re-upload the custom firmware. This solved the black screen on my PSP. For you to check, try to get another memory card and see if it does the same thing. If it worked after using a new memory card, your old Memory card may already be corrupted and defective.

For psp what does bricked mean

"Brick" means corrupting your Firmware, the system that makes your PSP run. Bricking can be caused by either "interrupted update of firmware" or attempt to install "PSP Hacks" also known as Jailbreaks or Custom Firmware (CFW).
Some PSP Models can be revived when bricked by using a system called "Recovery Menu" which becomes available when the PSP was running a CFW before it bricked. Another way of unbricking a PSP including those that runs Original Firmware is using Pandora Battery and a Magic Memory Stick.
However, there are PSP MOdels that cannot be unbricked. These are the PSP 2000 Slim that have the Motherboard TA088v3 and other higher end. The worst PSP Motherboard is the TA088v3 because once bricked, PSP becomes a lovely paperweight without game functions and possibility to be revived.

Free PSP games

The only way to get downloaded PSP games to work is to have custom firmware. Custom Firmware also dont brick your PSP unless you interrupt your PSP while upgrading your PSP.

Upgraded to version 5.03 on my psp2000 and cannot play games now

You need to use pandora to put CUSTOM firmware back on your psp, downloaded games dont work with official firmware.

PSP powes up , just green diode , lcd is black .

This PSP is bricked, meaning the firmware fails to boot. You can google around for Pandora's battery and how to make the magic memory stick, to revive the PSP or send it to a PSP Repair service.

Help

if its not an LCD problem....

this is what we call a BRICK ...

usually this happens when you are upgrading your firmware
then the upgrading process is interrupted (empty batt.. etc)

you could send it back to sony and have them fix it

OR

buy a new motherboard ... costs half the price of a psp unit i think

OR

get pandoras battery and magic memory stick and resurrect your psp :D

My psp has a black line(like dirt) in bothside...

I would recommend watching this site http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/ they are working on a downgrader for the 3.51 firmware. If you can downgrade back to the 1.5 firmware you can then install one of the customized firmwares that expands your PSPs functionality as well as fixes Sony problems.
